"I can't lose my job." Namjoon mumbled under his breath. His eyes pierced the space between his slightly raised hands. He looked lost. Confused. Scared.
"What other option do you have?" Jungkook cooed and wrapped his arms around namjoon's shoulders, pulling him closer. "We'll help you find a new job!" He tried calming Namjoon down, but it wasn't working. His gaze became more sharp, his jaw clenching and eyebrows furrowed in anger or confusion. Maybe a mixture of both.
"You don't understand," Namjoon began and looked each and every one of us. "For me to lose my job, means either getting fired, which is highly unlikely, or I died." He explained.
"What is your job?" I asked, remembering him mentioning that he once choose for his friend to lose his job.
"Namjoon..." Jimin raised his arm and patted namjoon's shoulder, a sign of support. "Namjoon here works in the army."
"And when you said that you choose your friends to..." I started but he cut me off.
"He didn't die. That friend of mine...Well, he's half the man he used to be." He whispered, his tone gone dark and regretful. "I thought it meant like him getting discharged or something, not send him to a mission he can't recover from." His voice cracked, just like the trust that slowly was built inside of me for him.
Namjoon pulled his phone away from my hands and his finger hovered over the top choice, his hand trembling. He finally pressed the option to lose his job and immediately after that he got a call. He picked it up and his face went completely pale, but then after the long conversation he let out a sigh and his hand clenched his shirt.
"They... they thanked me for my service." Namjoon said and his expression changed from relived to confused. "That's not how it normally works?" He added and scratched the back of his head.
"Nevermind that, at least no body important died, right?" Jimin spoke up and rubbed namjoon's back. "Now relax. We know you didn't do it on purpose."
"Let's see Jungkook's options." Taehyung suggested and all of us surround Jungkook and his phone.
"That's an easy question." Jungkook spoke and smiled to the other boys. "I don't wanna be disowned and losing a friend isn't that bad, because I know I won't lose any of you."
"How can you be so sure?" Taehyung asked.
"Because you guys are family to me." He replied and a grin appeared on his face. "Now, let's get this over with!" He exclaimed and pressed his second option. Nothing much happened. "See, all the people I care about are here with me." He outstretched his arm, presenting all of them.
"What about you MinJee?" Namjoon asked and pointed to my phone.
"I got get expelled or replaced." I answered and shrugged. "The choice ain't that hard for me."
"Replaced? What does that mean?" Jimin thought out loud and then clicked with his tongue. "Do you think by replaced, they mean in the game?"
"What do you mean?" Taehyung asked.
"I mean, what if she can now change this cursed fate to someone else. Her getting replaced in the game?" He tried explaining.
"That makes sense but what if it isn't like that? What if it means that I literally get replaced by someone other than myself. Someone stepping into my shoes?" I examined my options but I really don't get what they mean exactly.
"Nah, that's just playing crazy!" Jungkook exclaimed and shook his head.
"Listen, if a game can control what happens in real life, I have the right to question everything now." I said and took my final decision. "I really don't wanna be expelled, I'm not sure what will my parents do to me, but I don't mind getting replaced if it is like what Jimin suggested."
"Be careful." Namjoon said. "You can't turn back now."
"I am careful. That's why I'm thinking through every option I have." I said and pressed my option. Just then, just slightly, I felt something leaving. It was subtle but enough for me to notice it. It felt like... it felt like when you forgot something you were about to say, as if it was on the tip of your tongue. One problem though. What did I forget?
"You still think I belong here?" I asked as I saw the boys looking through Jimin's option. Jungkook turned his head and raised his eyebrows in confusion.
"What do you mean 'belong here'?" He asked looking around. Did I really get replaced in the game? Was I replaced in their memory with the other unknown player? "You got the game, you got the squad." He continued and laughed.
"You ass!" I shouted and jokingly hit him on his back. "For a second there I really thought I was replaced."
"Pff, we'll see soon what got replaced." He said and patted my head. "For now let's focus on the options the others have." After that, we got to analyze jimin's choices of breaking a leg/ getting lost and Teahyung's flying for a trip/plane crash. On the mean time, that feeling of forgetting something keeps getting stronger.
