After the incident with the nightmare, either Yoongi or Hoseok would stay by my side until I slept. Everytime I closed my eyes I could see that horrific face. I couldn't built up the courage to tell Yoongi about it. It's just that we grew so close to each other, I can't tell him that the cause of my insomnia was a nightmare of his face.
"You've been spacing out a lot lately." Hoseok spoke up,gently pinching the side of my arm. I shrugged and continued to scroll though my phone. "What's wrong?" He asked and pulled a chair to sit in front of me. Currently both of us were alone at his apartment, Yoongi went to check up on his own place and would be back shortly.
"I don't know." I replied and looked at him apologetically. He gave me a stern look and I shrugged even more.
"Is it about that nightmare?" He wondered. I just looked at him and gave out a deep sigh.
"Yeah." I replied after a long pause.
"Want to talk about it?"
"Not really. The important thing is that it's over." I put my phone away and gave Hoseok full on attention. "Listen... More like read, I'm not a little girl. Yeah, I may be in my final year of highschool, but I know how to take care of myself. Tomorrow I'll finally be an adult and..." I stopped, realising what I had said. It totally flew from my mind that my birthday was tomorrow until I said it. I wish I could bring my words back as I saw Hoseok's eyes lit up. "Nuh uh, don't even dare!" I mouthed and stood up while raising my hands. "I'm really not feeling it." I walked around him and towards the kitchen to grab a glass of water. As I was drinking, Hoseok's face suddenly popped up from the side of the door, a pout on his face. I rolled my eyes and finally gave in. "Okay, fine! I'll do it." As I said that, Hoseok jumped in excitement.
At that moment I heard the door unlock and after a while a confused Yoongi showed up. "What's going on?" He asked. I didn't reply so he had to calm Hoseok down and ask him again. "God..." Yoongi whined when Hoseok replied to his question. "I never understood what was so special about birthdays anyways." He dropped some bags on the table and continued to walk towards the living room where I heard him flop on the couch and turn the TV on.
The night passed and here we are, over twelve hours later, in a dress shop.
"Nah, I liked the pink one more." Hoseok said.
"The black one looked better." Yoongi argued as I stood with eight dresses hanged on my arms.
"But I liked the blue one!" I whined and stomped my foot. I literally looked and sounded like a todler. "We've been here for over two hours and all you two do is criticize my fashion sense."
"Yeah, because it sucks. How the hell did you like the blue dress? It looked hideous." Yoongi mocked and looked me from head to toes. "Jeez, I can't even imagine you in it again."
"Between the black and pink one, which one do you choose?" Hoseok asked and crossed his hands infront of his chest. "The pink one right?"
"If I have to be absolutely honest, I'd choose the black one." I said and heard Yoongi shout in agreement.
"I knew there's little fashion sense in that black heart of yours."
"Not as dark as yours." I added and narrowed my eyes at him. "It's just that the pink one looks to flashy for dinner."
"But it's your birthday!" Hoseok exclaimed and outstretched his hands ready to fight anyone.
Another hour later and we finally bought the black dress. This is by far the most tiring birthday I ever had.
Fast forward a couple of hours and we finally arrived at the restaurant. As I walked towards the doors, I saw through the glass that there were no guests. I turned around and questionably looked at them, waiting for an explanation. They just signed me to continue.
I pushed the doors and as soon as I stepped inside, a crowd suddenly jumped and threw confetti towards me, cheering happy birthday. I got so scared that I fell flat on my butt. Someone grabbed my arms and pulled me upwards, leaving me utterly surprised when I saw Namjoon standing a few centimeters away from me. I looked around and saw a mix of friends and strangers, but mostly strangers.
"I have to confess for a crime I did." Yoongi finally spoke up as the noise died out. I looked at him wide eyed. "I messaged the group chat on your phone. The one you told me about." He continued and shrugged apologetically. "Then deleted the massage so you won't see it."
"Why didn't you tell us it was your birthday?" Namjoon asked and I turned my attention to him. He looked different. In fact, all of them looked different. Last time I saw this bunch, their faces were full of life, but now I either saw sunken eyes, swollen lips from overbitting or nearly dead eyes. Even though all of them were smilling, I could see through their masks.
"Do you think it's appropriate after all that happened?" I whispered and patted the side of his arm when he couldn't answer.
After we ate, the bunch grouped together for a chat while Hoseok and Yoongi grouped with people that they invited. I decided to go out for a walk, take some cold air, breath. The streets were pretty deserted, a car passing every half hour or so.
When it got too chilly to be outside, I decided to turn back and head towards the restaurant. Halfway through my walk, I got cold chills run down my spine. It wasn't winter, yet I felt the weather drop at least ten degrees.
*ting*
With a beating heart, I looked at my phone, a simple message displayed.
Game over? Speeding car? Meaning death? No, thank you.
I confidently pressed stay and watch and at that moment I heard the squeeking sound of tires against the road. It went silent for a moment, just then...
"Hey! MinJee!" Jungkook called out and I saw him walk towards me. He suddenly stopped as a car's headlights hit the side of his vision. There was no time to react. By the time I moved my legs, the impact had already happened.
His body flew over the car and finally hit the hard ground with a loud thud.
