Chapter 19
Cameron's POV
It's been a few weeks since the incident with Jay. He still feels really guilty about it, and to make up for it, he's been cooking for me, cleaning, and just doing just about anything to make me smile. I already got over it like a day after it happened, but Jay just felt awful about it. Evie tries not to bring up what he said about me almost being killed twice, and I'm glad she tries to avoid it. Most of the time. But of course, like anyone else, curiosity got the best of her.
"So Cam," Evie trailed off as we were drinking coffee at the local coffee shop. "What exactly did Jay mean when he said you've almost been killed twice?" She said it quickly and tried to avoid my gaze. I knew it would come sooner or later. Maybe it was time to finally start talking about what happened with a friend.
"It's a long story." She just stared at me as if she was expecting me to go on. So I did. I told her everything that had happened from the night at the bar, to why Jay was so protective of me. Except for the letters. When I was finished, I took a deep breath and took a long drink of my coffee, then look at her waiting for her response.
"Jesus." Was all she said.
"It was really bad."
"I'm so sorry that happened. And here I was thinking that Jay was just an overprotected jealous douchebag of a boyfriend."
"There's something else I need to tell you though." It was time to tell someone about the secret letters from Jack.
"Go on."
"Jack has been sending me letters." She gasped when I said this.
"What!? What do they say?"
"Just the usual threats." I avoided her gaze. "And he called me from prison."
"WHAT!?" She stood up from her chair as she said that. She looked at the people around us and apologetically smiled and sat back down. "What?" She whispered"
"He said that if he can't have me, then he wants me dead." I started to trace my fingers along the wooden table we were sat at. I felt ashamed of this. I haven't told anyone else about this. I didn't know what to do.
"What did Jay say about this?" She asked me.
"I haven't told him. You're the only person I've told." I looked back into her hazel eyes. Her curly hair had gotten frizzy throughout the day because of the wet weather.
"You haven't told Jay?" She looked so confused, as if she didn't know how to properly react to this. "Why not?" She asked.
"I'm scared. And I don't want him to worry. He's done enough for me to last a lifetime."
"You have to tell him, Cam. This is serious."
"I know... but I can't."
"Cam-" I cut her off.
"Let's just drop it, please?" I pleaded. She fell silent, then finally nodded. We started talking about our jobs and how we hated some coworkers.

I came home and instantly smelled chicken Alfredo in the air. I took a big wiff and sighed happily. I walked into the kitchen and saw Jay standing over the stove cooking.
"It smells so good."
He turned and smiled at me, "thank you." He replied. I walked over and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"You don't have to keep on cooking me food. I forgave you a long time ago." I laughed when I saw him roll his eyes playfully.
"I don't care! I want to cook for you."
