•Chapter 13•

Tessa's POV:
Today is Jake's birthday and we were gonna surprise him with a birthday party later tonight. I woke up and saw him still sleeping peaceful I laid my head on his chest making him wake up, I looked up at his sleepy eyes and kissed his cheek.

T:Happy birthday baby!
J:Thanks babe!

I climbed onto his lap and held his face with one of my hands and got closer to his face, I smiled before pressing my lips onto his, as he kissed me back Chance called Jake from downstairs. I pulled away and sighed as I got off of him and stood up, he stood up and put a shirt on before going downstairs, I rolled my eyes before going downstairs.

C:It's for you. Happy birthday by the way!
J:Thanks.

Jake grabbed the box and made his way to his room, I sat on the edge of the bed right next to him, he took the note off the box and read it out loud.

J:My dear son, I am sending you this gift with love and kindness as a peace offering. Happy birthday my sweet boy! Much love, Aquata.

I looked at him but he just looked at the box, he undid the ribbon around the box.

T:Jake don't open it.
J:Why not?
T:Um hello, because it's from Aquata!
J:Ok, and?
T:Oh I don't know it's not like she tried to kill me and your friends!
J:Tessa she's still my mother!
T:ARE YOU HEARING YOURSELF RIGHT NOW JAKE?!
J:Tessa you're overreacting, it's just a gift!
T:I'm done, do what you want I don't care anymore!!

I stormed out of the room and laid down on the trampoline.

Erika's POV:
I heard screaming upstairs and then I saw Tessa storm out of Jake's room so I went to check it out with Chance. I opened the door and see Jake opening a box with a cupcake inside, I see the note and instantly smack the cupcake out of his hand. The cupcake fell to the floor and released a pink gas, as soon as I could smell it I recognized it as Burning Bane, a gas toxic to mermaids that only makes mermen stronger if it's in their digestive system when they transform, I instantly covered my nose but it was too late, I fell to my knees and started coughing, Chance immediately picked me up and ran out of room and into the living room, I felt my eyes burning as he set me down on the couch then everything went black....

Tessa's POV:
I see Chance lay Erika down on the couch then I see a cloud of pink gas, Burning Bane! I jump off the trampoline and head towards the door, I start getting dizzy and fall to the floor, I see the door open and Max comes inside, he grabs me and helps me stand but I pass out in his arms....

Jake's POV:
I go downstairs and see Tessa and Erika passed out, Tessa was passed out in Max's arms,jealousy overcame me and I instantly regretted not listening to her. Max set her down on the couch and then went into the kitchen, I walked over to Tessa and held her close before Max came back and took her from me, he gave her some type of potion. He gave me the leftovers and told me to give it to Erika, I took it and gave it to Chance, he gave her some and she instantly woke up.

Tessa's POV:
I woke up and saw Max hovering over me, I smiled at him before asking.

T:What happened?
M:I guess you had Burning Bane in your system and you passed out so I made an elixir to heal you and Erika.
T:Thanks.

I hugged him and I could see Jake from the corner of my eye, he looked angry but he had no right to be, this was his fault, I told him he shouldn't open the box, but what did he do, open the box! I pulled away from Max and smiled at him, he went to check up on Erika and Jake came over to me.

J:Tessa I'm so sorry I didn't mean for any of this to happen!
T:mhm..

I rolled my eyes before I stood up and walked over to Erika.

T:How are you feeling?
E:Much much better!
T:Good!
E:Hey what happened this morning? I heard yelling, are you and Jake ok?
T:No, I told him not to open the gift, but it was like he was defending Aquata for everything, and I just got so pissed because after everything we did to keep him from her, he still thinks of her as a fucking angel!
E:Tess...
T:What?!

She pointed behind me and I saw Jake behind me.

J:Tessa that's not how I feel about her!
T:IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE THAT THIS MORNING NOW DID IT?!

Suddenly I feel a hand on my shoulder and turn around to see Erika.

E:Come on Tess let's go...

I nod at her and she guides me to her room, I feel another arm on my other shoulder and see Max, I smile at him before we enter Erika's room.

E:Tessa, I know this is the last thing on your mind but we need to finish planning Jake's party.....
T:Ugh, you're right.
E:Ok so Chanthony will take him out to the go kart tracks while we set up?
T:Sounds perfect!

We finish adding some last details to the plan then it's time for the trip to leave, we set up the decorations and Max helps, Kade buys alcohol and everyone else puts out the snacks, soon the people start piling in and then we hear the boys pull up....
