chapter 36

long time no see. it's been 6 months. sorry but I'm on break so I have time. :) 

** 3 months later**

Jace's POV

          I head down Rodeo Drive and see the paparazzi quickly walking behind. I sigh and pull my sunglasses down the bridge of my nose. I stop in front of the Gucci store and say ' hey guys, could you do me a favor of stop following?' - they look at each other and one says ' sorry Jace, we just want the latest information about Peyton's new boyfriend. Have you met him?'  I take my sunglasses off and pull out my phone.- my lockscreen is filled with notifications from publishers and social media. I rush past the paparazzi and read an article. The head title: Jace Norman's former girlfriend has found a new love interest. I skim through it and see a couple of pictures. I run my hand through my hair and mumble 'f*ck.'  I see flashes and see cameras all around me. I jog to my car and quickly leave. I fumble to get my phone and I find Peyton's contact. - I call her. 

        She picks up and says [hey Jacey, I miss you.]- I keep driving and say ' Don't Jacey me, I saw all those articles about you and your "new" boyfriend.' ......silence.....

          I run a red light and mumble 'sh*t'. Peyton still hasn't said a word and I begin to panic. Are all those articles true?  I say "Peyton, tell me those articles aren't true.'  Peyton finally answers and says [ I don't know Jace, I don't know. That could have came out months ago.]- I roll my eyes. I pull my hands away from face and say ' well, I'm coming to your house so you better come up with a good excuse.'- I hang up. I sped up faster and almost hit a couple cars. I pull up at Peyton's house and I honk the horn.

Peyton's POV

          I nervously hold my phone in my hand as I recall what Jace just said "well, I'm coming to your house so you better come up with a good excuse." I bury my head in my hands and say ' this is gonna get heated fast.' I feel my phone buzz and see Aidan's name pop up multiply times. I remember when I first started seeing Aidan - 5 months ago. We would see each other late at night because we knew there wouldn't be paparazzi. But we stupidly went out in public 2 weeks ago and our pictures were taken. I start to panic when I hear a horn honk. I peer through my window and see Jace glaring up at me. I instantly feel like I am going to get attacked. I grab my phone and get inside Jace's ca.

         There is so much tension and awkwardness between the two of us. I pull out my phone and Jace says ' so you're not going explain yourself? No sorries or apologies?' I glare at him and say [I don't want to argue with you while you're driving. I don't want to cause an accident.] Jace laughs and says ' you mean more accidents.' I open my mouth but quickly close it. I slouch in the passenger seat and look out the window. We pull up at the beach and I quickly get out go the car. We head down to the tables and we sit in front of each other. We stare at each other for a few seconds and Jace says ' do you know how embarrassing it is to be asked "how is Peyton doing with her new boyfriend?" Because believe me it totally is.'  I fiddle with my bracelets and keep my mouth shut. Jace takes off his sunglasses and says ' Ive gotten use to fake articles about me, my family, family, us. But articles about you have been repeating themselves quite a bit.'

Jace's POV

              I look at Peyton who is just sitting there.. quiet. I spin my sunglasses around and Peyton finally speaks [ I'm sorry ok. Ever since we started a relationship, I've broken us up more than twice. You've given me chances over and over again and I can't learn. I'm just a stupid teen who is just in it for the relationship fame. I've wasted your time and love caring for a girl like me. What do you expect? I'm just another L.A girl who wants to get noticed by a celebrity. I just really f**ked up this time.]- she begins to tear up. I run my hands down my face and sigh. I want to comfort Peyton but she really hurt me this time. I look out to the ocean and remember when I asked her to be my girlfriend.- I shake my head and start to get up. Peyton looks up to me and sniffs. I begin to walk away but I stop in my tracks. I slide my sunglasses on say " tell me one thing, were you cheating on me with that Aidan guy on purpose?' 

          Peyton wipes her cheeks and says [no, I was being stupid like always. I would never do that to you on purpose.] I stand there absorbing her words when I remember I have something in my pocket. I fish out a bracelet and hold it in my palm. I debate whether or not to give it to Peyton. I walk towards her and say ' here, I was going to give this to you on your birthday but I'm guessing I'm not going to see you now.' - I place it on the table. Peyton picks it up and hands it back. She says [ give it to someone who deserves it.] I take it back and walk away.  

** 2 weeks later **

Peyton's POV

              I jog down the busy street and I bump into someone.- they drop their boxes. I pick them up and I look up. I was facing Jace again after our argument. I couldn't bare to hear another argument so I begin to jog away. I hear Jace call my name and I stop in my tracks. He come closer and hands me a box. - I furrow my eyebrows and take the box. Jace smiles and says ' you think I could forget your 18th birthday?' I shake my head and give him a weak smile. He scratches his neck and says ' I know you're probably still shaken about our argument but I just want you to know that I'm here to talk... you know as friends.'  My eyes widen and I think [ did I just get friend zoned by Jace?]

Peyton just got friend zoned....
