chapter 38

**5 years later **
They're like 25?

Jace's POV
I walk out of my meeting with a big corporate business when I hear someone yelling in the other room. I quickly walk over and see a woman fighting with the CEO. I hid behind the wall and hear the woman say " IF I WASN'T A HUGE LACROSSE PLAYER THAT HAS A CONTRACT WITH YOU, I WOULD QUIT IN A HEARTBEAT! You better give me a raise or I'm getting a lawyer!" I hear the CEO sigh and say "fine, Peyton. I'll see what I can do. I'm not naming any promises." I squeeze the papers I was holding and think Peyton? My ex girlfriend Peyton?
I see the woman walk out and mumble "f**king d**k. He's such an idiot." I watch her walk by and I instantly flashback to my teenage years. I shrug my shoulders and make my way down to the car garage. I get into my Ferrari and see that there's a long line of cars to get out of the garage. I sigh and lean my head against the steering wheel. I fell asleep for a few minutes because the car behind me started honking at me. I'm in a bad mood already so I stick my middle finger out the window. The car honked even more. I was in such a bitchy mood I got out of my car and walked up to the car that was behind me.
I knock on the window and I see the woman who was yelling upstairs. I sigh and mumble "great." The woman looks at me and says "Jace? Jace Norman?!" I push my glasses to the bridge of my nose and say "yes? Can I help you?" The woman gives me a weak smile and says "do you now remember me? I'm Peyton Coleman." I nod and say "ohh, of course. The girl who used me to her ability and broke my heart. Of course I remember you." Peyton sighs and says "Jace, we went through this 5 years ago! 5 years ago! I was trying to fix my problems and you kept coming back!"

Peyton's POV
I yell my last sentence to Jace and swerve my car around his. I look in my mirror and see Jace on the floor. I park my car on the street and see Jace's car pull out of the car garage. I sit in my car and remember my last serious relationship.~ Jace. I know I broke his heart and gave him multiple problems but he showed me that there are guys out there who really care. I feel tears roll down my cheeks and I quickly wipe them away. My phone rings and I pick it up.~ I hear a toddlers voice in the other end. " MOMMY! where are you? Daddy is cooking and the fire alarm went off! Andre is crying!" I laugh and say "baby, calm down! Tell daddy to stop cooking. I'll bring something home."
      I hang up and see Jace standing next to my car. I roll the window down and say" can I help you?" Jace takes off his glasses and says "actually yeah. I just wanted to catch up." I laugh and say" yeah sure Norman. That's what you always want to do." Jace opens my door and says "you know. If we stayed together I think we would have broken up 5 more times." I give him a look and say "great way for having a conversation."  Jace's shoulders relax and he says "I'm sorry. I'm just nervous. 5 years ago when we tried to start fresh I just knew we would never last. But inside I felt something. I don't know what." I stop walking and look into Jace's eyes. I see all the pain I put him through and I flashback to us arguing all the time.
       I sigh and say "Jace... please stop bringing my past up. It was a bad time for both of us. You know that. After we stopped seeing each other, I tried really hard to stop involving others in my problems. I finally found someone who understands me and we have a family together.~ 2 kids! So please, move on. For me?" I take Jace's hands and give him a weak smile.
     Jace looks at me and then our hands and says " you know what. Forgot it. Forget about what we had. The relationship I tried to fix. Forget about this. ( he does a hand gesture) Just go live your happy life."~ he shoves past me and gets into his car. I stand there in disbelief and say "that man is going to have bigger problems."
