PHANA'S POV
Leaving Yo is always difficult but leaving him so I can instead go see my father is brutal. It's like getting punished twice.
The whole hour drive over to my family residence was awful. I kept wanting to turn the car around and go back to spend more time with Yo. However, a small rational part of me held me back from doing that if for no other reason than getting this visit over with and out of the way. Hopefully, I won't have to make another one again anytime soon.
Parking in the drive, I head into the house. Taking in the dark and empty living room and kitchen, I move down the hall to the only other place my father would wait for me, his office. Seeing the light shining under the door, I know I guessed correctly. After placing a quick knock on the door, I push it open and enter to find a man who looks eerily like me, just slightly older, waiting.
"Son, I'm glad you're here and on time." He tells me as he points to one of the chairs in front of his desk.
After taking a seat, I notice two sealed manila envelopes sitting equidistance between us on his otherwise completely clean desk. Knowing it's a trap and that he wants me to ask about them, I refrain from doing so just out of spite. I learned years ago not to play his games, since they are never beneficial for me. Forcing my eyes from the envelopes, I steadily meet his gaze and hold it. Not speaking. Just sitting and waiting for his next move.
After five minutes of silence between us, he huffs in irritation at my tactics, but places a fake smile on his lips before he starts talking. "As I told you on the phone your grandfather informed me of a couple of pieces of important information this morning which we need to discuss."
His smile warns me I'm not going to like what he has to say, but I want to get this meeting over with, so I ask shortly, "What information?"
"The first and most important news is it's rumored that Abaddon Morningstar's son is living top-side to complete his education. More specifically, we believe he's attending classes at your university." He states happily.
The Prince of Hell is here in Bangkok? At my school? "Are you sure?" I ask skeptically.
"Your grandfather is."
What is that old man planning now? "Ok. While that's interesting, it doesn't explain to me why I had to drive all the way over here tonight."
"I would have thought that was obvious. We want you to find him." He tells me then is silent. He's drawing this out on purpose and he's enjoying it.
Ok, I'll bite. "Why?"
"We need you to befriend him and sway him to our side for the upcoming revolt we're planning."
At his words anger and resentment surge through me. Not again. They can't do this to our faction and our family again. Their overly ambitious desires have already forced us to the outskirts of politics and society from their last attempted rebellion. Plus, they can't win. It's impossible. So, what's the point of starting another rebellion? Besides, Pride Faction is neither strong enough nor connected enough to hold power and rule the kingdom. So, why put us in this position again?
Focusing my thoughts, I ask through gritted teeth, "Believe it or not, not everyone wants to be friends with me. What happens if I can't make him my friend?"
"At least make the effort. I believe in your skills." He tells me with a shrug. "However, if it doesn't work, keep an eye on him and let us know his schedule. We'll send men to incapacitate and capture him. His father will readily bow to our demands once we have his treasured son in our hands." There's still a smile on my father's face, but it's no longer friendly looking. Now it's creepy and bordering on fanatical.
