Author's Note: Jay isn't an ass. Well, he is, but he doesn't really mean to be. He's just stubborn and hot headed, and reacts quickly to problems that happen to him. Plus with all the shit going down between him and his mother (their relationship is already complicated enough), the fact that he thought Weiss would rather work with his mother then with him set him off. And he doesn't respond at all to yelling, because yelling makes people defensive and when you're defensive problems don't got solved, feelings get hurt. So he reacted his to Ren's calm tone, but reacted defensively to Weiss's angry tone.

Weiss and Nora both looked at the door, looking back at their teammates in shock.

"You guys heard that too, right?" Jay asked suspiciously. Weiss and Nora nodded, while Ren slowly crept towards the door.

Before he could even get there, it banged back into the wall. Astria stood and glared at the two, her arms crossed in front of her dangerously. She put her hand up to stop Weiss and Jay's protest.

"I don't wanna hear it!" She warned. "I come down the hall to my son, after we had a good day yesterday, and what do I hear? Him and his partner going at it like a married couple, from the other side of a door no less! You attracted a damn crowd for crying out loud." She gestured to the people standing next to her.

Weiss bowed her head sheepishly, while Jay snarled at the people around him. Astria knocked him upside his head to get him to stop, a frown on her face. "Quit that. It's unbecoming. Also, quit arguing so damn early in the morning! Apologize right now."

Jay looked to argue, but Weiss turned to him, cowed. "I'd just like to say I am NOT a hypocrite. Yes, I made a deal with your mother but that was because I was annoyed and not thinking rationally. Nora and Ren pressured me last night and I thought it over, and realized that it wasn't smart for me to put it on you at all. The original plan was for me to explain to you what it was and if you weren't fine with it I would have asked Astria to take it back. I didn't know what it did besides stub your aggression and stubbornness, and we all know you get aggressive and stop listening when you're upset. I just hope in the future you'll try to think about our feelings before you explode at us and do or say things that'll hurt us. Hurt ME. I'm Sorry."

Weiss released a sigh after she was finished, prepared for the tongue lashing. However, when none came, she peaked open her eye and looked up to see Jay still glaring at Astria.

"W-what?" Weiss stuttered.

Jay looked at her gruffly. "You're right. I could stand to listen more. I'm sorry. But you-" he griped, rounding on Astria, "could stand to stay out of my life. What deal did you make with Weiss?"

"Oh, pipe down." Astoria waved, somehow dispersing the crowd behind her. "Just a simple trade, the band for dust. There's no harm in that."

"No, there is not." Weiss said, shooting Jay a glare over her shoulder.

Jay, however, stared back at Astria, nonplussed. "Okay. And what was the dust for?"

"You buffoon, she needed it to-"

"Weiss!" Jay snarled, eyes never leaving his mother's. "I wanna hear it from her mouth."

Weiss pouted, but complied, turning to look at Astria. Astria, in turn, rubbed the back of her head lightly, a sheepish grin on her face. "What's it matter? I got the dust, she got the band, all is set. There's nothing more to it."

Weiss nodded, relieved, before stepping in front of Jay. "Rightfully so. However, it seems I have no more use of this band you have supplied me with. As such, I would like to-"

"No can do." Jay and Astria said at the same time.

"W-what?" Weiss screeched, confused. "What do you mean 'no can do'?"

"All Bayangun deals are final." Astria said. "Makes the Semblance work easier. You go back on a deal, even if you make a new one, there's a chance you can still be sucked into the Shadow Realm. Messy business, I'm telling you.

"The only way for this to be fixed", Jay said, picking up for his mother, "is to make an entirely new deal. But you probably knew Weiss wouldn't use the band, but that you needed the dust in the first place, so you did this to actually get me to talk to you. So what is it that you ACTUALLY wanted, Astria?"

Astria looked at him and sighed. "Oh pipe down Jay. No need to get all fussy. I enjoy my trickery, but I NEED this favor done, and I won't jeopardize that.

"You see, I need to be let out of Beacon on December 12th. If you can grant me that, then I promise not to do any foolishness until the set day has passed."

"Done!" Jay cheered. Astria and his team looked shocked, but Jay waved them off. "But I have to go with you." He countered.

Astria groaned, rubbing her neck. "You always have to make this more difficult don't you?"

Nora giggled. "You DID make Weiss and him argue for no reason." She commented.

Astria chuckled lightly. "That I did. Alright Jay, you can come. But you will NOT like what you see." She warned.

"I'll take my chances." Jay told her. "Alright, let's get ready for class today!"

Omake: Taming Nora

"Nora... Pssst, wake up Nora."

Nora opened her eyes groggily, looking at Jay in confusion. "Jay? Wazzis happennin?" She slurred.

Jay put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry about it, relax." He told her. He waited for her to nod, then dispersed himself and her into the shadows.

*1 hour later*

Jay and Nora reformed next to her bed, crashing into the floor lightly. Nora looked around with wide eyes, looking at Jay in slight terror. "Why would you show me that?!" She whisper-yelled.

"For your own good." Jay replied. "Nora, you're loud and rambunctious and head strong and an all around amazing girl. However, with my family, that headstrongness can get myself and you in a lot of trouble. I need you to trust me, okay?"

Nora nodded back at him, hugging herself lightly. "Okay, yeah, sure." She muttered absentmindedly.

Jay hugged her, resting his head on top of hers. "I don't want this experience to kill the Nora we all know and love. I just need you to know, that when I get serious like this, you CANNOT butt in to whatever conversation I'm having. I've had this talk with Ren and Weiss already, but I thought I would need something more to actually convince you."

Nora shrugged out of his arms, before walking away. "Well Jay, it worked. Don't worry, I'll NEVER forget this night, and if you need me to stay out of a conversation for you, I will."

Jay nodded, sadly watching as she slid into her bed. 'It's for the best.' He told himself, sliding into bed. He spent the rest of the night looking at the ceiling, trying to think of any possible different way he could have handled the situation, and worrying about Nora and her mindset.
