Chapter 25: The Emerald Forest Ending

*Story Start*

"Weiss? Weiss?? Weiss!" Jay screamed out the side of his mouth. He turned to look at her to see her still completely out of it, on her back with her eyes closed. The Ursa was looming every closer to her and he cursed, not being able to disengage to save her. That moment's lapse almost cost him, as almost immediately one of the two Ursa Majors in front of him lunged, determined to remove his head from his body.

Luckily, the beast's own hubris cost it. When it bellowed in rage during its charge, Jay instinctively ducked down, the Ursa's lumbering arm sweeping over where his head was moments ago. He turned around to strike at it, but was caught in the back by the swing of the other Ursa, rolling him forward and almost directly into the back of the first. Jay pushed off quickly, shooting a burst of lightning dust into the Ursa in front of him to distract it, before barreling into the body of the second one. A brief test of strength appeared with Jay struggling against the Ursa's mighty weight, all for naught as the other swatted him to the side, allowing the first to land on the ground easily.

"Cardin, c'mon man!" Jaune raged. "He's been slaughtered out there, and Weiss is defenseless! You gotta help them!"

"Jauney boy, relax." Cardin chuckled. "It's only 3 Ursa Majors. If Puppy Boy can't handle three big bears, then he doesn't deserve to be a Hunter in the first place."

"But Weiss-"

"Will be fine." Dove cut in. "Jay has that Semblance that lets him turn into smoke, right? I bet he's leading the Ursas away from Weiss, and then he'll come back and get her to safety."

"And after he does, we'll nab him with the bees!" Sky exclaimed. "What could go wrong?"

"Exactly." Cardin finished for his team. "So just sit back, Jauney boy, and we'll clean up the spoils and teach him better then to mess with Team Cardinal!"

Jaune shook with barely contained rage. Before Cardin could say anything, Jaune slugged him across the face, throwing his body into the ground. Dove moved to intercept Jaune as Sky and Russel moved to help Cardin up, but Jaune had already turned away from the group.

"You guys are despicable." Jaune bemoaned. "I get messing with me, I get messing with Jay, it makes you guys feel big and bad or whatever. But to let their lives be in danger just to settle some stupid little score you have? I could never stoop as low as you!"

"Well tough shit Jaune." Cardin sneered, spitting out blood. "We know you're dirty little secret, and unless you want us to tell Ozpin about it, you're-"

"Go ahead and tell him!" Jaune roared in defiance. "Because nothing... NOTHING you could do or say about me could make me feel any worse then if I let my friends die!" So said, Jaune turned around and ran for the Ursa closest to him, assessing the situation as he went.

Jay obviously was thrown off when they appeared, his attacks coming out sluggish and dangerously slow. And that doesn't seem to have gotten better; as Jaune ran up he saw Jay get thrown over the ground and bounce twice before landing in a heap. However, before the Ursa's could capitalize Jay dematerialized and reformed in front of Weiss, once again standing over her prone body in a defensive position. This protected Weiss, but also sadly left him wide open, as when the three Ursa's converged on his position again he was left to defend it instead of dodging and weaving to allow himself more maneuverability.
