An update? Wow. - Jaz

You were still in bed, as it was only early Saturday morning. You stared at your ceiling, watching as the lighting changed as the sun rose. You heard your door open, and you groaned.

"Get out, mom."

"Not your mom."

The timid voice of a girl who usually felt most confident around you rang through the room. You sat up, glancing at Betty.

You wanted to say something mean and snarky to make her leave, but her state made you bite your tongue. Her outfit was the only thing that made you think she may be okay.

Her eyes were red, and the skin around was unbearably swollen. You could see the scars on her palms from several feet away, and her lip had a bite mark across it.

You tied your hair back, pushing the blanket you had off of you. You patted the spot that sat next to you, and she made her way over.

"I-" Betty started, but she immediately shook her head. She shut her eyes for a moment, tears escaping through her closed lids. Her hands balled into fists, tightening. You quickly placed your hands over hers, loosening the grip. You set your hands over the scars, before looking back at her.

"It's okay, Betty," You whispered. "What do you want to say?"

"I love you," She choked out, tears rushing down her face quickly now. "I love you so much, and I don't think I can live without you."

"Betty-"

"I don't know how to be me without you by my side. I can't control myself when I don't have you there to look out for me. I'm useless without you, (y/n)!" She continued, and you could feel your heart shatter.

"Then why were you with Jughead?" You asked, removing your hands from hers.

"I was struggling, and I should've just talked to you, but I was so scared and-"

"Struggling with what, Betty?"

She swallowed harshly, taking a deep breath.

"I didn't know how I identified. I didn't know if I was interested in guys, and I wanted to know! I just, I didn't want you to leave," She whispered.

"I wouldn't have left because you wanted some answers," You assured her. "Betty, I will always be there for you. No matter what."

"Even after what I did?" She asked.

"Of course."

"Is there any possibility you would take me back?" She questioned quietly.

You paused. "I don't really know."

"Could you think about it?"

Your stomach tightened as she said those five words. She had lied to you, on several occasions. How could you be sure she was telling the truth this time?

"I, yeah," You mumbled, "I guess."

She nodded, a sliver of hope present in her green eyes. You sent her a soft smile, before standing from your bed.

"Uh, do you want to stay?" You asked, walking over to your closet and sifting through your clothes. "We could get Pop's with Ronnie or something."

She shook her head, standing up as well and running her hands over her outfit to smooth it out slightly.

"I actually have something to do," She muttered, awkwardly avoiding your gaze.

You raised an eyebrow, before turning back to your closet. You pulled out a shirt and some jeans, before tossing them onto your bed.

"Something with Jughead?" You questioned, trying your hardest not to sound bitter or angry.

She was quiet, which meant your assumption was correct. You pulled your hair from the ponytail it was in, smiling as you walked over to your mirror.

"Have fun," You said, running a brush through your locks. "Tell Jug I say hi."

You could see her nod in your mirror, before leaving your bedroom. You sighed, picking up your phone and dialling Veronica's number.

"She fucking what?" Veronica asked, dropping the fry she was holding. "She has the audacity to ask you to take her back, then go hang out with him?"

You chuckled, shrugging. "It makes my decision easier, I guess."

She pursed her lips, placing her hands on the table. "I can't believe her."

You shook your head, taking a sip from the milkshake in front of you. "It's fine, Ronnie. I'm over it."

But you weren't.

Betty had gone to Jughead, again.

She had texted you a few times since that Saturday, asking to hang out or just talk about what she had said. It seemed like she regret asking for you to take her back, so you never bothered to respond.

You wouldn't avoid her at school, but you made sure to never be alone with her, so she could never bring up anything that had happened.

She had apparently called things off with Jughead, as the boy was now very much friend zoned. It made you smile whenever Betty would brush off a flirtatious touch or comment.

Every part of you wanted to take her back, to put her and Jughead in the past. But every time you went to return her calls or texts, you would stop yourself. You didn't want to get hurt again.

"(Y/n)!" You heard from behind you, making you turn around. You saw Valerie there, a smile on her face.

"Hey," You greeted, closing your locker and leaning against it. "What's up?"

"I was wondering if you wanted to go to the dance with me," She spoke, the smile never once faltering as she asked the question.

You were taken aback, you and Valerie had never been close. You spoke when you were in class together, but you had never once hung out outside of school.

Betty flashed across your mind for a moment, so you quickly smiled back.

"I'd love to."

You had made your decision - Betty had lied to you one too many times. You were moving on.
