It's been forever, oh my god. I've been so busy with exams and finishing up school, but I'm all done now so I'll hopefully have loads of spare time to write!

warnings: mentions of death, cancer, hospitals

Veronica hadn't left that hospital. From the moment that your mother had called her in complete and utter hysteria, to now. The grip that had once been so tight on your hand was now loose, and Veronica's eyes were squeezed shut. Her head hung over her legs as she caught up on some much needed rest, after four days with no sleep. The slightest change in your breathing was enough to wake her from the deep slumber, and she rubbed her eyes gently. She glanced at your fragile body, sighing. She could still remember the day where you had sat her down in on her bad, taking her hand in yours. You told her about the Medulloblastoma, both of you bawling your eyes out by the end of the conversation. You had told her that this was bound to happen. You were bound to just, die.

"She's not going to get better," Veronica's head snapped up at the voice, coming face to face with your mother.

"I, I know," Veronica admitted, mainly to herself.

"I'm surprised she's made it this far," Your mother continued, making Veronica's grip on your hand tighten once again.

"I used to think her smile was bright enough to cure cancer," Veronica said sadly, biting her lip to hold back tears. Your mother smiled for a second.

"You must really love her,"

"I do. I really do. I would do anything to trade places with her," Veronica acknowledged.

"I would too," Your mother sighed. Veronica allowed the tears that had pooled in her eyes to fall, glancing at your pale face.

"It's not even watching her go, you know? It's the fact that I'll have to fill this unfillable void that's going to be there once she's gone," Veronica breathed. "She's my heart, my lungs, my everything."

Your mother remained silent, pondering over Veronica's dangerously sad words. She couldn't come up with a response, only seeing now that this was hurting your long-term girlfriend much more than it was hurting her. She took one last look at you before leaving quietly. Veronica sat up as your hand seemed to grip her's back, tighter than ever. Her eyes moved to watch your face, an almost unnoticeable smile resting on your cracked lips. She couldn't stop the small smile that now rested on her's, and she could only hope that somehow, you knew it was her. Somehow you knew it was the one you loved the most, and somehow you knew that she would always, always be there for you.
