Hannah walked back into the courtyard. Her hips swaying as she walked with conviction and purpose. She was determined, nothing has stopped her these past four days, she was adamant on finding Carlos and nothing could stop her.
As she walked past Kol he opened his mouth in a smirk as if to say some cocky remark, but Hannah quickly shut him down with one deadly glance and a wave of the hand. Nothing was going to get in her way. Not now she was so close to finding him. Not now she was so close to getting the revenge Hazel deserved.
Hannah paused and gulped as she thought of her dead sister. As she felt tears brimming in her eyes she quickly shook them away and continued walking towards Freya's room. She couldn't get distracted. She had to remain strong, as if she let her guard down for even one moment she feared she might break. The death of her twin hit her hard. They had not properly laid her to rest yet as the fight was not over. The war was yet to be one. Hannah pushed all of her grief aside and focused on one emotion. One emotion that was driving her forward, keeping her going and preventing her from stopping and cracking.
Anger.
Hannah pushed open the doors to Freya's room with a bang. Freya jumped up startled by the abrupt entrance. As she realised it was only Hannah she sighed and sat back down.
"Found anything?" Hannah asked pointedly at her. Frustration lacing her words as she was preparing herself for more bad news. It's all that they have come up with, is dead ends or pointless connections, in the past few days. Hannah couldn't deal with another false lead.
"Maybe..." Freya furrowed her brows as she glanced down at the papers scattering the table. Hannah looked at her nodding her head, as she implied for her to fill her in on this possible lead. Her heart rate increasing in anticipation, as she failed to keep her expectations low in fear of disappointment.
"Well?" Hannah snapped. Her impatience getting the better of her as she clicked her tongue.
"I'm not too sure..." Freya hummed. Hannah's heart rate fell, as a small frown formed on her lips. She knew it was too good too be true. "I was looking through some old papers, back when he used to advise us and work for the family." Hannah nodded quickly her foot impatiently tapping on the floor.
"And?" Hannah tilted her head to one side, still awaiting an explanation.
"And...." Freya mocked her nieces frustrated tone. "We kept a collection of any places he mentioned any clues as to where he may live or his family may reside." Freya shuffled some of the papers before picking up one. "Now, of course Carlos wouldn't be stupid enough to actually tell us where he lived. So instead I looked through some of the side notes and I found somewhere that may be of interest." Freya handed the paper to Hannah.
"How come you never used this before?" She asked quickly scanning the paper. A small scribble at the bottom of the page was circled in red. It mentioned a lake in Spain called Ecrina.
"Well before we got a chance to use it, we tracked him in the city and we thought he had killed him." Freya sighed as Hannah looked to the floor. If only that had been the case, then maybe Hazel would still be here. Hannah could feel herself breaking the longer she thought of her twin. She cleared her throat and blinked away the tears threatening to fall from her eyes. She looked back up at Freya with a forced anger filling her features.
"Well obviously that didn't work so can we use it now?" Hannah snapped, her words dripping with venom.
"Its worth a try." Freya placed her hands upon Hannah's shoulders. "Its the best lead we've had in a while... just don't get your hoped up ok?" Freya shared a small smile before patting Hannah on the back as she turned to get back to her work. Hannah gazed around the room for the first time. Empty cups of coffee and sheets of paper were thrown around the room. It was a mess. If you looked closer at Freya you could tell she was a mess too. Her hair was messy as if her hands had run through it too many times. There were dark circles underneath her eyes. She looked as if she hadn't slept in days. None of them had. Hannah turned to leave and placed her hand on the doorknob.
"Hey Hannah?" Freya piped up.
"Yeah?" Hannah turned around and glanced at her raising an eyebrow.
"Go check on your mom before you go." Freya smiled again. Hannah returned it in agreement. Hayley wasn't doing great. She hasn't left her room all week. She hasn't spoken and hardly eaten since it happened. She was taking it the worst out of all of them. Hayley had lost many people in her lifetime. But nothing compared to the loss of a child. You can hear her crying out Hazel's name at night. Hannah winced at the memory.
Elijah was suffering too, but it was harder to tell. He would go away all night and return early in the morning covered in blood. He would clean himself off and act like nothing had happened. The others were mourning for a while, but were putting their aims to catch Carlos first before anything else. It was like walking through a graveyard. Everyone having their own experience with grief but all slowly dying inside with the loss of one of the youngest Mikaelsons.
Hannah reached the door to Hayley's room. She took a deep breath before knocking quickly on the door. She listened to see if there was a reply. Nothing. Hannah sighed as she opened the door to the room. She poked her head round the door into the darkness inside.
"Mum?"
