Hannah sat by Carlos' body. Her eyes were red and sore from crying, her hair was matted with blood and lake water. She was still covered in the blood of her enemy yet she felt no remorse. She looked down at her stained red hands as she thought of her sister once more. She had helped her. She had seen it, it felt so real. Hazel was standing right in front of her, talked to her, told her she could win, and she did.
Then why was she still crying? Surely she should be happy? She had seen her sister again. Something she thought would never happen, yet all she feels is this whole in her chest. This crushing, overwhelming pain, tearing her insides out. She missed her so much it was unbearable. It was like her heart had been ripped from her chest, her barrier that contained all her emotions this past week had crashed and burned, now all that was left is the rubble and destruction left in its wake.
All that was left was her.
Just as she thought she was going to drown in her own misery, she could see a bright light in the corner of her eye. Its warm glow casting a shadow across her face. She sat there for a moment, her eyes closed, basking in the comforting warmth of the soft glow. As the glow became stronger, brighter, a frown of confusion crossed Hannah's face.
She slowly blinked open her eyes, a blinding white light covered her vision. She slowly blinked as her eyes adjusted to her surroundings. She could see the warm glow emitting from the centre of the lake. She stood up staring at the circle of light, confusion lacing her brows.
She gasped as a hand flew out of the water. It was pale and dainty, not unlike her own. The hand seemed to reach for something but failed, it slowly sank into the water as the light began to fade. Hannah's eyes widened in realisation as she ran to the waters edge. She called out to the water using her powers, feeling the tingling sensation crawl up her arms as reached out in front of her. She separated her arms, in a swift motion, causing the lake to split in half.
The water on either side of a small path, was held back with an invisible barrier using up all of her strength. Hannah had created a walkway in the middle of the lake. Hannah froze for a moment as she saw a figure curled up in a ball at the end of the walkway. Tears began to brim in her eyes as she ran towards the body.
Hannah gasped for air as she reached her. She knelt down to lift up the girl's long hair. Her curly brown locks dripping wet. Hannah frantically moved the hair from the girl's face as the tears fell from her cheeks. She choked as she saw the girls face.
It was Hazel.
Hannah nearly screamed in joy, her heart was hammering in her chest as she searched for a pulse. She grabbed her arm and placed two fingers on her vein. She let out an exhausted laugh as she felt the slow but steady beat of a heart in her sister's chest.
She sat there cradling her sister's head, rocking back and forth as she hysterically cried for joy. Her sister was alive, her twin, Hazel was alive, and she was ok. They were both ok. Hannah looked down at her sister's pale face, watching silently as her eyelids began to flutter. Hannah smiled down joyfully as she opened her eyes.
"Hey," Hannah whispered, still cradling Hazel's body gently.
"Hey." Hazel croaked out in reply, her voice still sore. Hazel smiled up at her sister as Hannah cried down at her.
"You're ok? You're really ok?" Hannah sobbed, as Hazel laughed gently.
"I'm fine, us Mikaelsons have been proved very hard to kill." Hazel joked, as Hannah laughed, wiping the tears from her eyes.
"You were dead, you were gone, I thought I'd lost you." Hannah spoke, sadness clouding her eyes once more.
"I'm here now ok? That's all that matters." Hazel cupped Hannah's head in her hand as she smiled, comfortingly up at her. Hannah smiled in return as the two sisters sat there in each others arms. A mixture of laughing and crying as the sun slowly began to set. The suns orange glow lighting up their faces as they finally, for the first time in what felt like forever, felt at peace.
