Present Day

Hannah stood at the edge of the woods, her arms crossed defiantly across her chest as she glared down at the man standing by the water's edge. Carlos looked up at her smirking as he turned around to skim stones along the tranquil water. Hannah huffed in anger as she walked down towards the man responsible for her sister's death. She went to stand next to him and focused her eyes straight ahead, trying desperately to ignore the amused smile playing on Carlos' face.

"Hello again little one." Carlos turned to look at her, Hannah remained facing the water as she looked thoughtfully outwards.

"Why did you do this?" Hannah cleared her throat and turned to look at him, tears brimming in her eyes. "Why are you so focused on ruining my life? Why did you kill her?" Hannah's voice cracked at the end as tears finally broke the barrier she had put up the past week. Carlos looked curiously at her for a moment before he looked back to the lake.

"You and your sister shouldn't exist you know." He muttered his eyes distant as if he was looking back on a memory long ago. "Vampires cannot procreate, its a curse your grandmother placed upon your kind. Yet here you are." Carlos looked back to her tilting his head. "Did you ever wonder why?"

"No, not really, I just never thought about it I guess." Hannah admitted, looking down shamefully. "I never really thought to ask about a lot of things before it was too late."

"Well a long time ago I did a spell for your mother." Hannah looked up surprised. "What, you thought I only helped when you were little? Oh no little one, I've been part of this since the beginning." Carlos smirked as he skimmed another stone bitterly. "I made a deal to the devil to make you." Hannah felt a small surge of anger build up inside of her. "I guess I shouldn't have been surprised with the outcome. A yin yang of sorts. One child born of evil and one born of good."

"The child born of good was easily corrupted. You see, good cannot be tainted, it has to remain pure. Thats why when your sister killed all those people to save her family she lost all her powers, good was corrupted." Hannah looked up at Carlos with wide eyes.

"But... that means...." Hannah stuttered in realistation

"Yes, my child, you are the child born of evil. So easily corrupted its in your nature." Carlos laughed as the fiery rage flickered beneath Hannah's eyes. "I hardly had to control you," He taunted "You wanted to hurt them, deep down, you enjoyed it."

Hannah snapped, the bottle on her rage flew open as she launched herself onto Carlos. She screamed as she wrapped her hands around his neck, slowly crushing his windpipe preventing him from breathing. Carlos looked up at her in anger as his face slowly turned purple, the veins popping on his forehead. With a wave of his hand Hannah was pushed off of him and thrown a few meters back into the lake.

She stood up dripping wet, she flicked the hair out of her eyes as she held her hands out in front of her. The lake was silent for a moment and Carlos looked around confused. Suddenly a large wave erupted from the lake and crashed on top of him knocking him temporarily to the ground. As Carlos began to slowly regain balance Hannah ran towards him, the ground shaking beneath her as she jumped onto him, knocking him down once more.

Hannah felt a tingling in her arms as she sent a circle of fire surrounding them, enclosing them in an arena. Carlos pushed her into the sand as he began chanting, he stood above her, glaring daggers into her eyes. Hannah suddenly felt an excruciating pain course through her, it was like every fibre of her being was alight with flames. Hannah screamed in agony as the pain almost became too much.

She closed her eyes as she thought of her sister, her calm green eyes smiling at her, telling her that it was all going to be ok. She could slowly feel the world around her quieten down, Hannah opened her eyes and looked to the side seeing Hazel standing there, in a pale white dress. The flames dancing around them at a speed much slower than normal time. She slowly walked towards Hannah's squirming body and lent down towards her ear.

"You're stronger than this," She whispered as she moved a strand of hair out of her twins face. "You can beat him, you have the power you've seen it yourself." Hazel caressed her cheek calmingly. "You can do this, I believe in you." Hazel lent down and kissed Hannah on the forehead before slowly fading into nothing.

Hannah felt the world speed up again. The pain returned and the earsplitting sound of her screams reached her ears once more. Hannah felt a warm glow appear inside of her, slowly growing and diminishing the flaming agony in her body. Hannah gasped as she sat up, the last of the pain finally leaving her. She looked over and saw Carlos standing facing the other direction. With all her remaining strength she called upon her powers. The four elements, chanting in a fierce melody inside her mind.

Earth, Fire, Water, Air.

Hannah watched as rocks from the beach flew towards her, moulding themselves into a dagger. Water from the lake combined with the air creating ice, encasing the weapon. Finally the circle of fire spiralled towards her, burning the dagger until it became a dark black colour, the colour of death.

Carlos turned around in shock, his face paling at what he saw before him. Hannah didn't take any chances, with one final smirk in his direction she threw the dagger into the centre of his chest. Carlos collapsed to the floor, blood pooled around him as he held onto the fatal wound. Hannah ran up to him, looking down at his blood soaked body, an adrenaline rushing through her as she stared at what she had been imagining for the past week. Carlos dying at her hands.

Carlos looked up at her, the light slowly leaving his eyes as he spoke his final words as blood splattered out of his mouth, Hannah grimaced in disgust.

"Darkness cannot exist without light."

"But yet, here I am." And with that Hannah plunged the dagger down deeper into his chest and watched as the life left the eyes of the man she had hated for so long.

And she cried.
