Hannah fiddled nervously with her hands. Her heart was pounding a hundred miles a minute as she sat in the cramped aeroplane seat. She was getting closer to him, closer to Carlos. There was only fifteen minutes left on this flight. She had been flying for 12 hours straight. Most passengers to her left and right had slept through most of it, but she couldn't. Not with what was at stake.
An air hostess walked passed and accidentally knocked her arm. Hannah could feel the vile moving in her pocket. She panicked and quickly moved to retrieve it. She sighed with relief as she held it in her hands. The cool metal soothing to her hot clammy skin. Everything was counting on this vile working. She had to cast a glamour spell to prevent it getting blown up during security. Even now the tired eyes sitting next to her could only see a harmless pencil, instead of the powerful potion this vile contained.
It had to work. If not, Carlos could gain control of her again, and she couldn't let that happen. He didn't have control of her for very long last time, so if he managed to do it again. She didn't know who she might kill. The potion in the vile was meant to prevent him taking control of her. Hannah pondered what the old lady from the shop warned her about. All of it had to be used. If only a single drop was left, Carlos would be able to control her again.
A bell rung, and an announcement from the pilot told her they were about to land. This is it. Here we go. Hannah gripped onto the arms of her seat as the plane began to shake. Her head was thrown against the back of the seat from the increasing pressure of the landing plane. She scrunched her face up as the wheels made contact with the runway below. Hannah had never been very good at flying. There were just too many things to worry about at the moment then if the plane will stop working.
The plane slowly came to a halt and Hannah let out a breath of relief. Hannah nodded to herself. One thing down, a million more to go. The seatbelt sign came on and she quickly undid the clips and stood up. The vile still in hand as she quickly walked to the front of the plane. She smiled a thank you at the air hostess and then left through the open door.
Hannah walked through the airport with her luggage for far too long, until she found the exit, immediately regretting that she dropped Spanish in school. Finally she followed a large crowd though some large glass doors into a lobby. Many more people were inside, some carrying signs with names on others just waiting. Hannah saw a man holding a card with Hannah Rowlins written on it. She may go by Mikaelson now but it was probably better to be a bit more low-key. She smiled at the man and he showed her to his car. She quickly got in and looked out the windows.
The Spanish landscape was stunning. The rolling hills and colourful plants filled Hannah's eyes with colour. She was glad she flew and didn't take the portal. This was worth the wait. And the side note of any magical activity would automatically alert Carlos to her location so there was always that. Hannah glanced down at her phone. There were 10 missed calls from Hope and what looked like 100 texts from Rebekah. Hannah could nearly feel the anger coming off them. She smiled at her phone. It was better this way. She couldn't allow anything to happen to them. If they interfered, they would probably make the situation worse.
**********
The taxi pulled up by a path surrounded by trees. The surrounding life was quiet, the traffic and cars stopped a while back and they had been following an old dirt path for the past half hour. Hannah opened the taxi door and jumped out onto the gravel path. The stones crunching beneath her feet. The breathed in the cool fresh country air and smiled. It was such a contrast to the busy streets of London and New Orleans she had nearly forgotten what it was like.
She paid the taxi driver and waved as he drove off. She turned around and sighed. This is it. Carlos was probably at the end of the path waiting for her. A shiver of fear coursed through her as she thought of him. She quickly took out the vile from her pocket her hands shaking as she did so. She uncapped the lid, making a small pop and threw her head back as she downed the whole contents of the vile. The liquid stung as it flowed down her throat. It was like drinking acid. Hannah coughed violently as her body tried rejecting the potion. After a few moments the coughing stopped and she swallowed nervously.
Hannah took her first step forward. Closing her eyes until she could hear the crunching of rocks as her foot hit the ground. She blinked her eyes open as she carried on walking cautiously. Through the bushes and trees until she saw a blue light coming from around the corner. Her heart beat quickened as she pushed her way through brambles and branches towards the blue light. Eventually she pushed the last branch away.
Hannah's eyes were flooded with blue. A large lake filled her vision. It's colour a deep sparkling blue. It was surrounded by mountains and forest. Hannah gasped as she took in the stunning surroundings, her features forming a smile more genuine than she has been giving in a while. For a moment she felt at peace, the worries of the world around her dissolving in an instant.
But then it stopped. It stopped when she saw him. A figure dressed in black standing at the river edge smiling at her, his features twisted and morphed into a wicked smirk. Hannah's heart stopped.
"Carlos"
