CLEO'S POV
I stopped spinning and opened all of the drawers. THERE WAS ONLY ONE PEN! LIKE NO PENCILS OR PAPER JUST ONE BLACK PEN!!!! I started to fill out the papers after the 5th page I was devoping a hand cramp, by the 15th my hand was about to fall off. I sighed by the 30th, the last page. My eyes widened in horror, each line on the page brought tears to my eyes, I felt Adam look up from his papers to look at me. But all I could focus on was the list of the different vaccines I needed to get, if I was going to the amazon:
Hepatitis A
Yellow fever
Typhoid
Rabies
All the stated vaccines are crucial to maintain a healthy life in the amazon, it is critical to understand that not all illnesses are prevented with vaccines but can be TREATED with several more immunizations and series of anti-biotics. Illnesses include, but not limited to: Zika, Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya, Schistosomiasis.
"Not a fan of needles?"
"Hell no!"
"I have to get mine done too. Maybe we could go together?" Adam asked shyly.
"I'd like that very much." I blushed softly, Adam smiled as he put away his snake. I looked over and saw two large habitats next to my desk, one was about 40 gallons, while the second was like a pen, with places for heat lamps and such.
"Adam what are these for?" I opened the glass door and looked inside, the pen next to it was clean, as in no type of bedding, or dishes.
"For your reptiles, we each get to keep a few of our own. Most of the time we bring them home with us." I nodded my head.
"I'll give you a tour, you can pick out some from the babies we have." I was led out of the office and down to hall into a large room, connected to more rooms.
"So, this is our nursery wing, any eggs we collect are brought here. I'm the main caregiver to these babies."
"Where do these guys go when they are bigger?"
"Some of them move into our exhibits, which are used for education. Schools love bringing the kids here."
In the first room, all I saw was incubators, they looked like glass door fridge's holding plastic containers with eggs inside.
"You still have so many animals, where do the rest go?"
"I started a program where schools purchase an animal package, teachers look at a list of reptiles included in the program and choose one, Jack and I come in on a later day and set up the habitat and introduce the class to their class pet."
"That's incredible, but that would still leave a lot of animals"
"The rest we deliver to pet stores we signed contracts with. I also hold adoption days here at the sanctuary." I nodded my head, these people do so much here, its so much more than what Mary had us do.
"We have quite a few school enclosures today, do you want to help?"
"Of course!" Adam dragged me into another room, where Jack had a bunch of boxes set up with different sized terrariums. Jack handed me a stack of cubed coconut shavings and showed me how to prepare the shavings.
"Each cube requires a gallon of water, break up the cube and let it soak inside the plastic tubs and put the whole thing inside these boxes." He pointed to a wall of relatively small boxes. Adam placed light fixtures and decorations in after me. everything was wrapped up and labeled, with school name, the teacher and the kind of reptile they purchased.
"We have to get the animals." I followed Adam into the nursery with a type of wagon, instead of two seats, it had a series of tanks inter-connected for easy transport. The bottom ones were slightly larger, but as you get up higher they only held a couple of gallons.
"So, we sell most reptiles, in singles. but more social ones live in pairs, such as Geckos. We sell those in pairs." I helped collect the 8 geckos and placed a pair in each tank on the wagon thing. We tossed in a few bearded dragons, and snakes. We walked to the delivery truck and started to move the little guys into the tanks in there. It looked very similar to the wagon, but it had more stability and different light fixtures.
