I was completely shocked when Marcus proposed. We hadn't talked much since the incident, so this was a complete surprise. How was I going to marry him when I didn't know if I wanted to continue our relationship? But I couldn't decline in front of everyone and watching him cry only made me want to stay and try to work things out. I could see Dria glaring at me here and there but I tried to ignore her. She was right but I refused to admit it.
"Let me see this, ring!" Kaidyn waltzed towards me, snatching my hand. "It's so beautiful! How do you feel?"
Kaidyn seemed more excited than I was and that only pissed Dria off. I shrugged my shoulders and smiled but Kaidyn wasn't buying it. "We need to talk!"
I followed her to the bedroom while Dria trailed me, and shut the door.
"What's the matter? You act like you don't want it.."
"That ring ain't about shit if she's not happy, Kaidyn. She has him out there all excited and she doesn't even want to may him!"
Kaidyn glanced at me with disappointment in her eyes as Dria spoke.
"You going to let me talk, Dria? Since you know every damn thing!"
She rolled her eyes and placed her hand on my her hip, waiting for an explanation. Sitting on the bed, I exhaled deeply. "I want to be happy... but he hasn't changed. Everything is the same, I just have a ring now. He's still selling drugs, putting our family in danger, and coming home all hours of the night. I need stability."
"So Ron has stability?" Dria asked crossing her arms and leaning against the wall.
"It's not even about him!" I lied while glancing down at her ring.
"I understand where you're coming from Chantel but don't you think this is a little selfish?"
"Selfish? Wanting more out a Marcus is selfish?"
"That's not what I mean, Chan."
"Well what do you mean, Kaidyn? Please help me understand!"
"You know what... Why are we even having this conversation?"
"No, we need to get an understanding because you two want to make me out into this horrible person. Let's not forget who was cheated on constantly!"
"That was so long ago, Chantel. Please give us a better excuse for why your cheating..." Dria yawned.
"I'm not cheating! Okay, if you want me to stop seeing Ron, then that's what I'll do.. I'll stop it all tomorrow!"
"Finally! You had me feeling guilty!"
Kaidyn tossed me my phone and I noticed a missed call from him.
"I saw you talking to Daniel, Kaidyn. You ain't slick!"
"He was just telling me that his girlfriend couldn't make it, and gave me a card."
"What else does he plan on giving you?"
"Dria, you know that it is not like that!"
"Whatever.. I don't see how you've held out this long but since he is the only guy you've been with.."
I watched the two walk out of the bedroom before dialing Ron's number.
"What's up, baby?"
"Umm, hey.."
"Why you sound so nervous?"
"I just need to talk to you, Ron."
"Talk to me then.."
