"Chantel, don't you think it's getting late?"
"We can't spend the night?" I asked while rocking Skyleigh in my arms.
"Spend the night?"
"Yes, Skyleigh likes it over here, Mommy."
"Chantel, that baby is sleep!"
"Exactly, she falls asleep over here. When I'm at home, she's always awake this late."
"Oh, really?" My mom asked folding her arms.
"Okay, fine, we'll leave if that's really what you want us to do."
"Give me the baby!" My mom spoke holding her arms out, reaching for Sky.
I wanted to spend the night because Kaidyn had Jahleel over and I figured they needed privacy. Passing her my baby, I stretched across my mother's couch and flicked through the channels. I heard the front door open and turned around, noticing my father.
"Hey baby, what are you doing here so late?"
"We're spending the night."
"Okay pumpkin, I'll be in the back of you need me."
"Hey dad!"
"Huh?"
"Has mom ever messed up..I mean really really messed up, to the point where you two.. didn't think you could make it?"
"Of course. All couples do."
"Well how do you get everything back right?"
"It takes time, ChanChan."
I nodded my head and he walked off.
"Chantel..Chantel!" My mom spoke shaking my shoulder to wake me.
"Huh!" I grunted.
"What is this?"
"What is what?" I sat up and found her holding a pregnancy test in her hand.
"You're pregnant, Chantel?"
"Why are you going through my purse?"
I snatched the test out of her hands and rose from the couch, making my way down the hall.
"Chantel, what is wrong with you? You don't even have a college degree but you're pregnant again." She fussed, following me through the house.
"What does that have to do with anything?"
I cut on the bathroom faucet and began to brush my teeth.
"What do you mean? Chantel, that boy is holding you back and you're letting him!"
"No one is holding me back."
"Oh really? You know, I called Marcus and he told me that same lie you told me. Oh, ain't nothing wrong, evening everything is good... So, I called Janice Ann Campbell herself!"
"Why would you call his grandmother? You're too nosey, mom!"
"It doesn't matter! She told me you two haven't had Sky together in God knows how long! Now he done put another baby inside of you and left! Jesus, why didn't you bless my daughter with common sense?"
"He didn't leave me!"
"Then what do you call it? Did he get back with his other girlfriend?"
I walked out of the bathroom and to Skyleigh, noticing my dad who was feeding her.
