Chantel
A few weeks had passed, and things were better for me. Marcus was gone, but I managed to piece everything together, starting with counseling. Madison's death had been a burden on me, but it was becoming easier to cope with, especially since Sky kept me so busy. We had to be up early the next morning, for court, but she wanted to play the entire night, and we didn't get any rest until four that morning.
There was movement around the room but I was too sleepy to check it out. Judging by how brightly the room was lit by the sun, I knew it had be early afternoon. Sky was stretched across the bed, taking up more space than needed, as usual. When the mattress began to shift behind me, I cut my eyes to see Marcus crawling into bed. I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or awake, but I took in the beautiful moment and turned my entire body to him.
"I'm sorry I missed court, what time is it?"
"3:30."
It was later than I expected, and my eyes were still low, wanting to remain shut.
"Are you okay? Do you want to go see, your grandmother? Casey?"
"Nah. I just want to lay here with you."
I smiled lazily, before my eyes shut involuntary, and placed my head back onto the pillow. Marcus pulled Skyleigh and I in his arms and kissed my neck before we all fell asleep, in the middle of the afternoon.
Dandria
"Is that the last of it?" I asked, helping Danielle with her luggage.
My aunt came down to get her, so that she could move up state. We figured she could use a change of scenery and a fresh start. My aunt had always helped us out while growing up, and I knew that sending Danielle to live with her was the best choice.
"Yea, that's it." She shrugged, glancing around the neighborhood.
"I'll let you girls have a minute." My aunt smiled, before getting inside of the car.
"I really appreciate everything you did for me, Dria.. I know it's a bit late to be telling you but, I do. Sorry for everything."
I pulled her in for a tight hug. "Get yourself together Danielle... The next time I see you, you better be on your best behavior."
I released her and took a step back, looking her in the eyes.
"I will, you know Mary ain't going for that shit-.. I mean stuff."
She laughed at her own comment and wiped the tears from her eyes before they could fall. "I love you, Dria."
"I love you too, Danielle."
My mom rushed out of the house and down the steps. "Mary, take care of my baby! You hear me!"
"Oh, Lord." Danielle sighed as she approached us.
"You forgot this, Danielle." She spoke passing Danielle fourty dollars.
"Thanks mom."
She pulled Danielle in for a hugged that lasted longer than any other she gave us growing up. "I'm going to miss you.... go up there and go to school. Be better than your mama, okay? I know Dria is going to keep me posted on you!"
Danielle was laughing but tears wouldn't stop pouring from her eyes. "Don't cry, you're going to make me cry."
I wiped her face and pulled her into another embrace, but this time, my mom joined in. "We love you, Danielle."
