"I haven't heard from him in a week. Do you think something happened to him?" Chantel cried into the phone.
"Calm down, I'm sure everything is fine. I'll call Daniel."
"I already tried...three times."
I figured Chantel was overreacting, until turning on my television and noticing Marcus and Daniel's mugshots. My jaw dropped as I tried listening to the reporter and Chantel's rant. After hearing about a few firearms and drus obtained, I cut the television off and told Chantel I was coming over.
As soon as she placed my purse on Chantel's kitchen counter, she was rushing towards me with tears in her eyes. I figured someone had already told her the news, so I only consoled her, rubbing my hand along her back.
"This is not okay, Kaidyn." She cried, while trembling in my arms.
Dria rushed into the home, calling for Chantel until finding us both in the kitchen. Without a word, she wrapped her arms around Chantel gently.
I couldn't believe what was going on, and wondered if this was the last straw for Marcus and Daniel. The thought of them getting caught often crossed my mind, but I never imagined it would happen. Now the two of them were in jail waiting for trial. Chantel was so upset, she could barely stop crying. What would she do with the kids if Marcus wasn't around anymore? She'd manage but they wouldn't have their father and I know she wouldn't want them to see him in prison. As frustrating as things were, I knew it was only a matter of time before things got worse.
While walking towards my car, I noticed Jahleel leaning against the driver's side with a smirk on his face as I approached.
"So this is how I gotta catch up with you?"
"You fucked, Dria!" I spoke shoving him back.
"Huh?"
"I'm so- ugh! Stay away from me!"
"Chill it wasn't nothing like that. You acting like she had the baby!"
"She was pregnant?!"
Is God punishing me for my abortions? I should have known exactly what she meant when she confessed those words.
"Get the fuck away from me Jah! I told you I'm done with you!"
He grabbed my wrist, as I reached for the door. "Man that shit is old!"
"Just like your shit!" I snatched away, cutting my eyes in his direction.
"Fuck it, then."
I hopped in the car and pulled off, leaving him behind. Dria didn't bother telling me about the abortion, just like she avoided informing me about casual sex with Jah. To make matters worse, when I arrived to my apartment, Noah was waiting on me.
"What are you doing in town?" I asked, searching around my purse for the keys.
"Taking a flight out tonight. I wanted to know if you thought about it."
I sighed heavily and paused. "Noah, I'm not marrying you."
"What?"
Reaching in my purse, I pulled the box out and handed it to him, while he looked surprised. "I should given it right back. I can't marry you because I don't love you and you don't love me."
"I wouldn't fly all the way down here if I didn't love you."
"I can't accept the ring."
"So you're telling me no."
