Mayu awoke leaning on Zoe's left shoulder. She glanced at her friend's sleeping face and smiled. 'So cute...' She thought. She turned to the left to look out the side window, and found the drape shut. She must have closed it right before they fell asleep. She yawned, sliding it up, and letting in a sudden rush of light.

"Argh!" She exclaimed, immediately closing her eyes.

She kept opening her eyes a little, getting used to the bright light. But when her eyes got used to it, she couldn't take her eyes off the outside of the window. It was gorgeous! Of course she'd seen this before many times, she used to visit her family a lot more often when she was younger. That huge mountain range never ceased to amaze her. Some mountains were snowed-covered, and some were dry. But none the less, it was spectacular. Suddenly, She felt a slight breeze on her right shoulder, like breathing, and then she heard a whistle.

"Now that's a view!" Zoe exclaimed, yawning.

"Heh, I told you it was gonna be good," Mayu said.

"True," Zoe stretched her arms. "But it's not like I didn't believe you."

Mayu took out the iPhoneX that she had recently bought, and took a few pictures of the view.

"Well, why don't we watch another movie?" Mayu suggested. "I've got my double earphone jack with me."

"Are you crazy, with a view like this? I think all these movies are affecting you." Zoe remarked.

Mayu laughed.

"I mean, we're going to be riding on this airplane for at least 8 more hours..."

"EXACTLY! The movies on these things are limited, so we should save them for later. For when we actually get bored, right?"

"But I am bored." Mayu complained. "I love the view, but I don't think I can stare at it for 8 hours straight."

"Well DUH, me neither! But being "bored" not doing anything, simply meditating is good for you. It might help you organize that messy head of yours. Of course, I'm not your mom. So-"

At that, Mayu chuckled.

"You might as well be, you would be the perfect mom."

Mayu and Zoe showed security their passports and respective papers, and then passed through Chile's agriculture, meat, and animal control security, they had brought a few snacks, so The SAG (Servicio Agrícola Ganadero) checked them to make sure they were safe to enter Chile.

They made their way to the last airplane they would take, but this time it was a short 1 hour ride to Puerto Montt, Chile.

Puerto Montt was a large city located next to a smaller town called Puerto Varas. Both towns are located about 11 hours South of the big Chilean city Santiago if your drive by car.

Mayu's family lived on Isla Helvecia (ees-lah-el-ves-eeah), a small island that was in front of a really well known island called Isla Calbuco. It's official name in native language is Chaullín, but the locals know it as "Helvecia".

They tugged their luggage along, and payed someone to take them to the island on a small jet boat, which would take around 20 minutes.

It was a beautiful island known for it's Arrayanes. In English, Myrtle trees. Similar, possibly, to the Madrone tree.

Her mom and dad were like lovebirds. Her dad was a Californian from Humboldt County, and her mom a Chilean from Patagonia. They traveled everywhere together, and were seldom separated. They were back in California, probably at a dance party or festival.

Mayu and Zoe's hair flapped behind them and in their faces as the boat moved on at great speed, propelled by it's motor. Their luggage was covered by a tarp to avoid it getting wet, and all three of them, that is, Mayu, Zoe, and the driver, on board the boat were wearing life jackets.

Soon, the boat started slowing down a bit as they got to the shore. It was shallow, so they had to get their luggage and walk to the front of the boat, which was closest to the shore, to avoid getting their shoes soaked.

They thanked the driver and started walking. It was hard with their suitcases on the rocks, but they managed to carry them across. Soon they got to a little dirt road, and looking into the center of the island, they saw a thick forest.

"Hey Mayu, who are we going to see, anyway?" Zoe asked.

"My family," Mayu answered.

"Yes, but who?"

"Oh, we're surprise visiting my grandparents."

"They don't know you're coming?"

"Nope."

"They won't have a heart attack to see you so suddenly after so long?"

Mayu laughed.

"My grandparents are tough old people, simply seeing me after some years won't kill them."

They walked along the road, and entered the forest. In the beginning it wasn't too thick of a forest, they simply followed the road until they got to a nice medium sized house. It was warm and comfy looking, and they could smell dinner cooking. That's when they realized that the food on the airplane hadn't been enough, they were hungry.

Walking up to the front door, Mayu knocked a few times, and waited. She could hear barking, and someone walking over. Then the door opened, and a middle-aged, but fairly young looking woman opened it.

Mayu's eyes widened in surprise as she gasped.

"Tía Martina!"
