Thirteen

Alexa's POV:

Alexa: "What?! No, no, there has to be some kind of mistake!"

Nurse: "is there a problem?"

Alexa: "nobody told me that he was the donor!"

Nurse: "sweetheart, that was because you specifically requested for it to be anonymous"

Alexa: "what room is he in?" I asked, sitting up

Nurse: "I'm afraid I'm not permitted to disclose that kind of information" she said with a sympathetic look on her face.

I sighed.

Alexa: "can you at least tell me if he's okay?"

Nurse: "he's doing just fine, he was just taken into recovery about a half hour ago"

Alexa: "okay, thank god" I breathed

Nurse: "and between you and me, he was asking about you too" she said leaning in with a smile

It was when she left that it hit me.
They couldn't find a match soon enough for me because the waiting lists were too long, meaning that Shawn went in and got tested, specifically requesting for the kidney to go to me if it was a match.

He may have gone behind my back, but if it wasn't for Shawn, I wouldn't be here right now.

Shawn Mendes saved my life, and he did it by putting his own at risk. His life will never be the same again, and he voluntarily put himself in that situation for me.

I only have one question.

How did I get so lucky?

And with that, I slowly dozed back off into sleep.

*meanwhile*

Shawn's POV:

I woke up to a pounding sensation in my head. I rubbed my eyes, and slowly took a look around to the room. There were two other patients here lying in the same type of bed as me. I must be in recovery.

My thoughts instantly shifted over to Alexa. Is she okay? Was the surgery a success? Is she awake? Is she hurt? Does she know it was me? Is she mad?

In the midst of my thoughts, the nurse wheeled her into the room. Despite the life altering surgery that she just experienced, she looked so peaceful when she was asleep.

Hey y'all! Thanks for reading chapter 13! Sorry it came out a little later in the day. I got my braces off today (yayy!), so I haven't had a whole lot of time :(
