"Broken"

Twenty Seven

*2 days later*

Alexa's POV:

It's been about a day since Shawn's single was announced, and he was truly over the moon. He began posting about it, and I even made a Twitter account--even though I hate social media--just to help spread the word.

This morning I drove him to some diner space in Toronto where his manager asked him to meet. They were filming the lyric video to "Life of the Party," so I just waited for him in the parking lot, scrolling through my phone.

A few days had past, and it was June 25. At 11:50pm I ran over to Shawn's house where his parents were frantically watching the clock, and his sister was excitedly snapchatting. I walked over to Shawn who was sitting on the couch with his arms crossed, and sat down next to him. He uncrossed his arms and put one of them around me, running his fingers through his hair with the other one.

I sensed something was off, and debated whether I should ask him for a few seconds, before ultimately deciding to.

Alexa: "you okay?" I asked, trying to sound as casual as possible.

Shawn: "I don't know" he shrugged his shoulders "what if people don't like it? I don't want Island to think they made a mistake signing me."

Alexa: "Shawn, it's an incredible song. People will love it. You shouldn't expect to break records with the first song you ever release, but don't doubt yourself, your abilities, and most importantly, your talent."

He kissed me on the forehead and mouthed the words "thank you" before Karen stood up and began to speak

Karen: "60 seconds until midnight!" She squealed

Manny looked at his watch, and Aaliyah was already refreshing the iTunes Store on her phone, I did the same.

Shawn: "you're not gonna pay for that, right?" he said putting his hand on mine to stop me from refreshing

Alexa: "of course I am" I said confused

Shawn: "no, please don't spend your money"

Alexa: "I want to. I want to support you on your first ever single" he gave me an unsure look.

Shawn: "thank you, but words are enough, you don't need to buy anything."

Alexa: "please" I begged "let me do this"

He reluctantly pulled his hand away and gave a sigh of defeat.

Alexa: "yay! Thank you!" I said before hugging him enthusiastically.

Manny: "it's almost time!" He said, making everyone sit up straight.

5...4...3...2...1...

Manny: "it's out!" He yelled

Karen, Manny, Aaliyah, and I instantly went on our phones and purchased the song. We began blasting it as loud as our cell phones would allow until it was eventually time for me to head home.
