Colby's POV
Me and my girlfriend Natalie were walking into a Tendergreens to get lunch after we had finished Christmas shopping. She was currently staying at my apartment to hide from her brother so we could surprise him for Christmas since he didn't know she was finally done fighting as a Marine. "Oh Colby look you see that guy over there in the uniform, he's a marine like me." She whispered looking over at a buffer looking dude. "That's a coincidence I guess." I told her as we got our drink cups. "Hey not to be weird or anything but are you taken." A woman around his and our age asked him. "Um yes engaged actually." He replied and me and Natalie being the naturally curious people we started to listen while we waited for our food. "Oh well whoever she is she's a lucky girl." She told him smiling. "Actually-" But he got cut off by another guy in a uniform. "Hey babe sorry I'm a little late traffic was bad." He told him. I could hear Natalie quietly awed and I smiled at her. "Wait so you two are gay and in the military?" She suddenly asked kind of as if she was disgusted and Natalie's head shot up from her food and she looked over at the woman. "Uh yeah is that a problem?" The original guy asked. "Yes it is, it's comforting to know that we have gay pansies protecting us from harm, no wonder we're getting attacked." She said sarcastically. Natalie stood up and I froze knowing shit was about to go down. "Babe." I called. "Hey I couldn't help, but overhearing you being a bitch to these men. Men that fucking serve the country to make sure bitchy, privileged white women like you are safe and aren't getting shot or threatened in person by terrorists." She said angrily. I stood up and grabbed her hand before she did anything stupid. "Well they are gay and in the military, it's a sin." She said getting in Natalie's face, but I pushed her back. "That's not a good idea lady. Natalie easy." I told her. "For a fact lady my boyfriend is right, touch me and you're as good as broken. Like these men I served in the Marines and left as Sergeant Major the highest rank in the Marines. I know for a fact men that are gay fight just as well if not better than straight men or women in the military. And for you to say that being gay is a sin is disrespecting my own brother who is gay. Now I want you to walk away from these men right now before I want to take this outside." Natalie explained her tone strained as if she was about to snap at any moment. The lady took a step back and went to walk away, but that's when I got a bad feeling. "They're the reason America is going downhill." She said over her shoulder before running out of the restaurant. Natalie chased after her and I sprinted after her as well. She almost tackled the lady, but I caught her in my arms. "Okay Natalie easy there. Lady seriously drive away now." I told her glaring. I took Natalie back inside and she walked over to the soldiers from before. "I just wanted to apologize for getting into your business, but I would never let a fellow soldier get bullied like that. I think you and your fiance are very cute together and I wish you a happy and healthy marriage." She said as I leaned against a wall close to them. "No thank you, you're the first person to ever stand up like that and thank you for your service Sergeant Major Natalie." They said saluting her. She smiled and hugged both of them and I went over and shook their hands. "C'mon babe let's go home." I whispered. She nodded and we waved goodbye to the guys. She held my hand and squeezed it gently. "I'm thankful that you're just strong enough to hold me back or else I would've ended up arrested." She said. "You're welcome-wait just strong enough."
