Let me stop you right there. Some colors do not go. I promise you, neon green and hot pink are not cute together. There are used for nine year olds' cheerleading, not book covers. These colors are despised. As for the first one, despite how colorful it is, it still gives off a very bland first impression because of the boring font usage and placement.Best sample font colors; White, Light grey, Beige, Brown— shaded lightly, or darker depending on your color scheme, and Light yellow. This also ties in with filters, which I will go over. Another thing when using fonts and colors is to add shading, with the Phonto app you can manipulate font shading, coloring, spacing, etc.
If using a black font, shading doesn't particularly work with these unless you go heavy on it. I'd say unless your cover has a very dark filter already on it, then you shouldn't do too much shading. Otherwise I think it will blend very nicely with a darker background.
Now for some more examples and tutorials !
Dull, right? We can make it better. I'll show you how.
App: Phonto — saved my life
App: WeHeartIt — better than Google Images.First, go to WeHeartIt. There you will find a search bar. I'm sure you have a faceclaim in mind, but if you don't, find one. Type your faceclaim's name in the search bar.
Tip: If you're going for a lighter touch, add the word "bambi" to the end of their name. It may not work for all faceclaims. That depends on how well known they are.
This gives you beige and off-white options, which are adorable. Wonderful aesthetic and I recommend 10/10.
Once you have found a picture, save it. The cropping for Wattpad covers are 2:3. Crop your picture and now let's open the second app. Phonto.
Here, you can select your photo and this amazing app gives you the option to filter it. This is your choice, but only do it to make your picture look better. My personal favorites are "Clamp" and "Sepia".
There are also "items" you can add to you picture to give it more life. Don't be dull, but remember not to do too much.
This is an example of what you could do instead of dull black font. White font gives it a more welcoming feel and adds light to your cover. Boxing the words also works to take up room, as I did on the cover. That was with the work of Phonto "items".
It's a very simple process and the more time you spend working on it, the better you get. This really was just a "get to know the process" kind of thing. You can do so much more when creating a cover than my example above and I 100% encourage you all to give your best shot at it!
I will do another chapter for covers with more apps and better examples. This was just a basic helping hand.
