Who Will Escape?

Spider Dance

"Okay," Tim stammers, painfully aware of Jorogumo's claws digging into his back. "So Devon we probably shouldn't have wandered off...or played the card game with the spider ladies...or let them tie blindfolds around our eyes...". Devon rolls his eyes at him, with a soft sigh "You think?". Tim sighs back.

Yeah, now that I think about it, that was all a bad idea...should've followed my instincts

"But it's okay." His breath catches in his throat, "We're gonna get out of this. As long as they send a girl for this spider to eat—". Jorogumo laughs.

"What's so funny?" Devon raises any eyebrow, wanting to know. "Did you really think that I would kill another woman?" sneers the spider "I would never. Women are too smart to fall victim to my fangs. Besides, their blood does not taste nearly as good as men.". "So you lied," Tim snaps, a bit shocked. "I wanted to make the game more interesting." She lets out a devious giggle. A long line  of swear words marches across Devon's mind as he realizes what Jorogumo is saying "Wait a sec...so when the girls get here...what's gonna happen to us?". "Whoever wins my little game," says Jorogumo continuing with her giggles, "will get to choose which one you to save from me. If you are chosen, you will be free to return to your friends alive, but if not..." She licks her dark lips.

Thomas leads the girls down a winding path, and Shay takes a thousand deep breaths in an effort to calm herself down.

Shay
In. Out. In. Out. I can do this. I can live.

But if she lives...what will that mean for Kiersten? Will she...? Finally, they reach their destination. There's webbing everywhere. Kiersten looks like she's about to be sick, and Shay feels a bit lightheaded, but both girls pull themselves together and read the note that's been left on front of them.

"To escape my web, you must each overcome three obstacles. Charge into the web until you each find a golden box. Inside will be your next instruction. Do not dally. I am hungry."

"Oh my gosh," Shay groans, but her voice isn't loud enough to be heard by anyone except herself. Thomas looks at both girls before finally saying the word.
"Go!"
They take off. Shay charges through the web, shoving her way through the sticky silk, until she reaches one of the two large golden boxes. She glances over at Kiersten and sees she's also at the box.

Shay
Kiersten makes it to the other box around the same time as me, so that's good. We're off to an equal start.

Shay opens the box to find a key and a note.

"I would never kill another woman..."
"It is one of my men who is going to die. They were simply bait to lure you in for my entertainment."

Shay
Wait, what? Me and Kiersten are both safe, which is a huge relief, but killing one of the guys instead...it doesn't sit right with me.

But since that's not possible, Devon will have to be the sacrifice.

Kiersten
When I find out that Jorogumo would never hurt another woman, I was like okayyyy! girl power! I know that's right!! I'm safe!

She wants to throw her note in the air and do a touchdown dance.

Kiersten
I'm not gonna fucking die! Girls will live to fight another day!
