Fifteen minutes after Bryan and Sarah's departure, a panic attack sends Amarie Gaskin out into the night.
Amarie
What have I done? Oh, God, what the hell have I done?"Amarie?" Sophia's right on her heels, still holding her lollipop. "Amarie, what's wrong?" She doesn't respond. She's too consumed by her guilt to even hear Sophia. She can't forget the betrayed expression on Bryan's face as Thomas called his name.
Amarie
I did that. I voted for him. I sent him into the challenge. In my efforts to protect him, I might've just prepared his grave, and it's too late to do anything about it..All she can do is pray. The other joins Sophia and Amarie outside. None of them say a single word. They stand there, waiting for a sign of life, waiting for a glimpse of a color, waiting to find out their friends' fate. Then, after what feels like a hundred hours, they get their answer. And it's not an answer that anyone expects.
"Bryan!"
"Sarah!"
"You're both back!"
Sarah's dancing in her shoes. Bryan is grinning from ear to ear. Together, they rejoin the surprised yet joyful group. Shaadira immediately throws her arms around Bryan, while Kiersten screams "Yes!" into the night. Amarie waits for Alec to share a quick hug with Bryan, then pulls the Detective into her embrace, beaming through her tears. I'm sorry, Bryan, her brain murmurs as his heart beats against her chest.
Amarie
I screwed up. I shouldn't have voted for him. I regretted it as soon as he left. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. The world gave her a second chance to save him from this house. She doesn't plan on letting it go to waste. When Olivia sees Bryan and Sarah emerge from that awful room, her soul soars. They did it, she thinks. They both escaped alive, just like Kiersten said they would. Maybe we can outsmart the Sorceress after all. Everyone traps Bryan and Sarah in a group hug. Even Thomas wears a smile. "We got this!" announces Bryan, holding up the gem. Everyone cheers. "And wait!" Sarah shows off a small white scroll "They gave us this.". Before they can examine their newest clue, thunder booms, prompting a chorus of screams from the group. Sophia scrambles as far away from the sound as she can, a feeling of uncertain dread invading her bones. "The Sorceress!" yells Kai. And he's right. There she is, emerging from a cloud of smoke like a stereotypical Disney villain.
Seeing her—the one responsible for the deaths of their friends—boils Sophia's blood "Uh-uh.". She hurls her half-eaten lollipop at the Sorceress without thinking twice. The lollipop shatters against the ground. Alec gasps. Sophia feels proud of herself. The Sorceress does not look happy to be greeted with a flying piece of candy "Pick it up!". "You pick it up," snaps Sarah. She has no idea what the Sorceress wants with them, something's about to happen. Something bad. "I think you forgot something," sneers the Sorceress.
