~Janelle's POV~
I made a quick click on my touchpad, letting off a large sigh of relief. I'm finally caught up with my schoolwork. I look at the time, 5:26. I've been at this all day, but it was worth it.
I closed my laptop and flopped down on Paige's living room couch. Since my mom was out for business, I was allowed to stay at Paige's for the week. We have had so much fun so far, and I don't go home until Saturday.
I hear loud footsteps coming from the stairs. I turn around to see Paige dressed up, like she was going out for a date."Why so fancy?" I asked confused.
"I'm going my out," She said smirking.
"With who, a boy?" I got up and walked over to Paige with a curious smile.
"No, I'm going out with a cow." She answered sarcastically.
"Awww, my wittle Paige has a crush." I start squeezing her cheeks like my Grandma would.
She swatted at my hands, "He's not my crush. Just a nice young man who I met at the Halloween party."
My smile faded away. Every time that party was mentioned I felt like I was going to cry. I made a huge mistake and it costed me my best friend. It was obviously that it was Bret under that mask, anyone could tell. I guess I was just oblivious to notice.
Since the party, I haven't talked to any of the boys. Even worse, this happened over a week ago. I know, I'm a bad friend for not owning up to my mistake. I don't think I will ever be friends with Jack again.Paige noticed my pain. "It's ok, Janelle. You will get through this, best friends can't stay mad at each other forever."
I shook my head and looked down, "You don't understand. Jack kissed me, Paige. And I was stupid enough to go on and make out with someone else. I broke his heart, I can only imagine his pain."
She nodded. "I see, but can't you at least talk to him?"
I looked up at Paige, water swelling in my eyes. She has no idea how much I want to talk to Jack. I miss him so much, but it's too hard. I hurt him, and not in the way that he hurt me. This was worse. Yeah yeah, he didn't talk to me for over a year. But I basically cheated on him, and that pain will never go away.
We stood there in silence until we heard the door bell ring. I stepped back and leaned against the couch, allowing Paige to answer."I will get it," Paige mumbled.
She walked up to the door and hesitated before twisting the knob. I could tell she was worried about who was behind the door, creating a pit feeling in my stomach. Paige opened the door, exposing someone who I would not guess would be there.
I blinked, giving him a blank stare. "D-Daniel?"
"Janelle.." He started.
"I should give you two some alone time. I will be in my bedroom," Paige said interrupting the silence.
Paige ran off upstairs, leaving only Daniel and I in the silence. He walked in and closed the door, blocking out the cool air. It was awkward, I could tell he had a grudge against me.
"Listen, Daniel-" I started.
"No need to explain." Daniel interrupted. He took my hand and led us onto the couch.
