38 - Why?

~Janelle's POV~

     I slowly walked up to the county jail, my hand interlocked with Jack's. A wave of anxiety filled up inside of me, making me start to shake. Jack gripped onto my hand tighter, calming me down.

"I-I don't know if I can do this." I stuttered, stopping in front of the entry doors.

"You will be ok, Janelle. We need to know why she did this." Jack answered, turning to face me.

     I gave a soft nod, continuing into the building. It was empty inside of the entrance room, only a front desk and a few chairs. There was a strong sent of coffee and smoke, stinging my nose. Jack slowly let go of my hand and walked over to the receptionist.
     After a few minutes, the lady took us into a small room and we sat down. There was a glass wall in front of us, a small, circled shape hole in the middle. Eventually, the lady brought Piper into the room on the other side of the wall. She looked tired and weak, her hands locked up in hand cuffs.

"What do you want," She mumbled, looking down at the ground.

I took a deep breath, "I think you know what we want."

     Piper didn't answer. All she did was stay silent, avoiding eye contact with Jack and I.

"We are only here for one thing, so tell us. Why did you do it?" Jack finally spoke up.

"Not like you care, all you care about is your fame and money." Piper snapped, still looking down.

"I care about Janelle, and she's all that I've been thinking about. My career is the last thing on my mind, family comes first."

     Even though I couldn't see her face, I could tell that Piper was rolling her eyes. She wouldn't cough the truth up, this is useless.

"Come on, Jack. Let's just go, she won't say anything." I whispered to him, standing up from our seats.

We started to walk out when Piper spoke up, "Middle school."

I stopped and turned around to face Piper, "What do you mean?"

"Middle school," She repeated. "That's when it happened."

"Continue," Jack said, sitting back down in his seat.

I sat back down next to him, Piper now looking up at us with glossy eyes.

"Darren Wells, ring a bell." She muttered.

     I stayed still in shock, thinking back to 7th grade. Darren, he was my boyfriend before he cheated on me. I remember that day like it was yesterday, every little detail. How Jack fought Darren, both of them being suspended for a week. The tall, blonde girl who looked to be about a year older than us. It all clicked, Piper was that girl.

"Oh, that bitch." I heard Jack mumbled, rolling his eyes.

"He was MY boyfriend, until the day he cheated on me. Not just with anybody, but with Apple Bobber over here." Piper continued.

"Shut up, and how is this our fault?" Jack retorted.

"Because Bobber had to mess up my relationship. She asked MY boyfriend out. She embarrassed me, in front of the entire school. She had to be a selfish, worthless being WHO DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ANYBODY BUT HERSELF."

"THAT'S ENOUGH," I shouted, finally being pushed off the edge. "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR NEGATIVITY, PIPER. BECAUSE OF YOUR PETTY SELF, YOU PUT NOT ONLY OURS, BUT YOUR OWN SISTER'S LIFE IN DANGER."

"Janelle.." Jack whispered, trying to calm me down. But I wasn't done..

"HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT HOW OTHERS FELT? YOU ALMOST KILLED ME, AND MY BEST FRIENDS. WE DID NOTHING TO YOU, IT IS DARREN'S FAULT THAT HE CHEATED ON YOU. NOT. ME." I finished, out of breath.

Piper stayed silent, emotionless. She realized her mistake, she did this to herself.

"Paige, she needed an older role model. An actual sister who would show her through the ups and downs. When your parents weren't there, you should of been. Now she's fighting for her own life, BECAUSE OF YOU."

"Nellie, I think it's time to go." Jack spoke up again since Piper wouldn't speak up herself.

"Ok, I've had enough of her." I agreed, standing up from my seat.

We left the station with the justice that was deserved. It was over now, no more worries about an unknown number. There was no one else in this plan, I know it. If there was, they couldn't do anything. The leader was taken down, powerless.

"I'm proud of what you did, Nellie. I never thought that you could yell so loud," Jack said, disturbing the silence between us.

"I know right! I hope I left her something to think about, knowing that she can't hurt us anymore." I chuckled, getting into Jack's car.

"So, what now." Jack asked

"Well, I heard that there was this sick video you guys are recording today."

"Oh yeah, I almost forgot about it."

I started laughing at Jack and his obliviousness. He's the one person that has been there for me, even when we're thousands of miles apart. Without him, I don't know what my life would be like. He's my other half, the orange cereal to my green ones. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. We are the Apple Jacks duo, an unstoppable pair.
We pulled up to the compound, the other boys anxiously waiting outside. I stepped out of the car, Daniel and Zach running up to me.

"Hey, Nellie. How was it?" Daniel asked, rubbing his hands together.

"Yeah, did you give Piper a piece of your mind?" Zach added, looking into my eyes.

"She sure did, I wish I got it on video." Jack joked, walking over to us along with Jonah and Corbyn.

"Yep, she's no longer our problem." I said, a large smile stretching across my face.

"I'm glad this is over. I don't think I can deal with anymore random numbers." Jonah said cheerfully.

"Same, you probably won't see me adding any new contacts for a while." Corbyn added, making us all laugh.

"I'm so glad I have you guys, I don't know what I would do with you all." I said, starting to tear up.

Jack pulled me into a hug, the other boys soon joining in. It felt good to be with them, no more worries. They were my best friends, conquering the world together.

"Now, how about we go record a dope music video?" I shouted, pulling away from hug.

"I mean, nobody gotta know."
