Matty's POV:

Summer's eyes filled with tears before she heavily sighed and wiped them away before she began her story.

"I was about 15 at the time and me, my cousin - the one I went the theme park with - and we were just laughing and messing about in the car, just being ourselves I suppose. The lightning and rain were really loud against the window. My uncle was driving the car and said we were going to the beach. I was confused as to why, but nonetheless I just continued talking to my cousin. Both of my parents believed that my uncle was crazy and needed mental help, but me and my cousin just thought he was like a big kid. That was until he stopped taking his medication."

She took a big drag of airbefore composing herself. Tears were threatening to fall, but she remained strong.

"W-we were just driving and then suddenly we were driving really fast. Me and my cousin told him to slow down, but he drove faster and faster. We drove near the sea shore a-and locked the car doors. Me and my cousin were so scared, we begged him to stop but he wouldn't listen. H-he kept saying to me and my cousin that we were bad kids and that we didn't deserve to l-live. So he drove the car really fast towards the sea."

The tears were falling effortlessly down her face as she re-lived her past. I opened my arms and brought her into my embrace. Summer laid her head against my chest, sobbing quietly.

"You don't have to tell me anymore if you don't want to. I'm not forcing you." I whispered gently.

"I need to keep up my half of the deal, remember?" She tried to joke. Smiling a soft smile at her, she continued.

"Me and my cousin were literally bestfriends. We were inseparable. She knew all of my secrets and in return I knew all of her secrets. But that night, I just lost hope in everything. My uncle drove the car into the sea, not before opening the windows. The water just flooded the car instantly. I immediately panicked and took my seatbelt off and slid out of the car and up to air. B-but that's when I remembered she couldn't swim. I started hyperventilating above the water and went back under, trying to save her. She was still alive, but her seatbelt was stuck. I tried to get it off, but the water pressure was too strong. I saw her crying and I couldn't do anything to help her. Her face was so pale and she just stopped crying. S-he died right infront of me. I was so mad at him, so so mad. I started feeling light headed so I swam back to the shore and cried for hours. That night, I lost my bestfriend. I just felt so helpless." She choked out.

My shirt was soaking in Summer's tears, but I didn't mind. She was curled in a ball against my chest whilst she sobbed violently in embrace.

"What was her name?" I spoke gently, whilst stroking her hair.

"Grace." She sobbed. I placed a fierce kiss on her hair and rubbed my hand up and down her back. She squeezed my shirt in her clenched fist, whilst she shook persistently in my arms. I felt so much sorrow for this girl, she didn't even do anything to deserve it.

"I miss her so much Matty." She cried.

"I know you do princess." I sighed. The guilt in my body was unbearable. I didn't even know Grace but she seemed like such a sweet girl.

Summer started hitting me against my chest with her clenched fist.

"It's not fair! I want her back! Bring her back!" She screamed.

She shook silently whilst the tears fell from her dull green eyes. Her eyes which once shone, held nothing but despair. Summer's punches got weaker and weaker as she continued to bawl her eyes out. A stray tear slipped from my eye before I had the chance to wipe it away. That's how guilty I felt for her, I was crying for her. I was crying with her. I haven't shed one tear since Delilah passed away, but now that Summer's here, I see things in a whole new light.

I rocked back and forth, soothing Summer. Her body calmed down at my touch, but I could still feel her body jerk every now and then. Her sobs and sniffles got quieter after she took a deep breath.

"For crying out loud,

settle down,

you know I can't be found with you,

we get back to my house,

your arms,

my mouth,

now I just stop myself around you."

I sung softly into her ears, allowing her to drift into a slumber.
