GRACE

She sat outside the closed door. Murmurs of voices drifted below her but she paid them no mind. He eyes rested on the doorknob but she couldn't bring herself to grasp it. She didn't know what to say or do but she was the last person on the list. Everyone from Nick Rye to Jess Black had tried to get the deputy to come out of the room but nothing anyone said could bring her to open the door. Grace wasn't very good with people, let alone sad mourning people but she couldn't watch as Abigail wasted away anymore.

It had been tragic. Watching the two of them fight like they were strangers. Muscle memory obeying over their minds consciousness. There was no hesitation, no sappy goodbye, there was nothing. Abigail remembered nothing just as her brother had after the murder of Eli the leader the Whitetail resistance in the mountains. Grace had watched Abigail and Matthews eyes cloud over before anyone could stop what was happening, once the music was in their heads what could they do? there was no resisting your own brain. Abigail had gone for a clean killing shot, at least Matthew hadn't suffered. Though now all the suffering was on Abigail alone.

"Abigail can I come in?" Grace called through the wooden door. A silent no called back to her. Weak and filled with despair. Grace could hardly stand to hear something so small and fragile

"I'm coming in" Grace grabbed the doorknob but it didn't budge in any direction. She looked back to Mary for assistance

"theres no lock on the door it must be something  jammed on her side" Mary shrugged confusion written on her face as she looked up the staircase at Grace. She turned her dark eyes back to the door grabbing the knob in her hand and slamming her shoulder into the door. It was so old and worn that the frame splintered in the corner giving way under her weight. Grace took a deep breath and slammed into it again this time with more force. The door came flying open sending Grace toppling inwards. Throwing her arms out to the sides to regain her balance and stand straight.

"You're gonna turn around and go right back out that door Grace" Abigail's voice was plain. No hint of any emotion she recognized. Grace looked up the barrel of the pistol pointed at her forehead raising her hands as she did so. An unsure back step keeping her distance from the girl in front of her.

"I'm only here to help" Grace studied her. It had been days since she had last seen her. Her long black hair pulled back into what was now a very knotted bun. Dark circles hung under her bloodshot eyes and made her skin pale in the face. She looked as if maybe she was the one who had died.

"Can you bring him back?" Abigail said through gritted teeth

"no I can't-" Grace started but Abigail cut her off

"then theres nothing you can do for me" her hand trembled slightly, fatigue and lack of nourishment obviously taking its toll.

"I can't bring him back but I can give you something else"

"What could you possibly have to offer me?"

"redemption and revenge" Grace spoke clearly catching Abigail's attention. The woman lowed the pistol but keeping her finger on the trigger.

"It's been coming for a long time, before his-" Grace took a breath and decided to exclude Matthew from the conversation "we had a plan to get Jacob, seeing as it's his fault you're in this predicament I say you should be the one to put the bullet in him"

"you can't kill Jacob" she laughed "you'd have better luck killing The Father than Jacob"

"our plan was perfect just give it a chance"

"tell me it" Abigail sat herself down on the bed uninterested in what Grace had to say but feeling content to mock her plan

"We know where Jacob's bunker is" she started "thats where he spends most of his time, if we have another team attack a nearby group of his people he'll feel the need to leave the bunker and rescue them, especially if he hears you're with them"
