“Well, I don’t know what to say, but just know that you’re one of a kind, Angel. You truly are and I like you for that, a lot.”
Those words left me with so many questions, which I decided not to ask. “I’m one of a kind?”
I ask him, dumbfounded. I obviously know what ‘one of a kind’ means.
He means that no one else is like me, he means that out of all the billions of other people living in this world he finds me more ‘interesting’ than they are.
“Yes, one of a kind. I mean, you have a great personality, you’re down to earth, and you’re a funny person who likes interacting with other people. The one thing I like about you most, is that you love laughing.”
He says and then chuckles at the end, which confuses me even more. In my eyes he seems like a madman.
‘What the hell are you laughing at?’ “What’s so funny?” My curiosity just got the best of me.
“Nothing, it’s just that I was thinking about your laughter.” I think it’s more than that.
I mean, yeah my laughter is amazing and annoying to most, but I don’t find it funny, NOT AT ALL!
“Oh, okay. I don’t find it weird at all that you’re laughing at someone’s laughter, it’s totally normal. Everyone in this world does it.”
The sarcasm in my voice is clearly audible as he looks at me like I’ve grown an extra eye on my forehead. “Ouch, such harsh words.”
I laugh at his ‘drama queen’ act as he puts his hand on his chest pretending to be hurt by my comment.
Joining in the drama queen act, I pull my phone out of my crochet bag to check the time.
“Time of death, 16:54.” He looks at me and then bursts out laughing, which causes a few people to look our way. But I have to admit though, that stunt was pretty funny.
I really don’t mind people looking at me, but today something just doesn’t feel right.
I feel a pair of eyes staring holes in the back of my head and I can’t help but look around.
To my surprise and disgust, I see Josh staring at me.
By the way if you refer back to chapter 3, you’ll see that Josh is my ex- boyfriend whom I dumped because he cheated on me with Gail- the school’s biggest bitch.
He’s sitting at least three tables away from us, so he can’t throw anything our way, like a knife or fork or even a broken glass or something.
With the way he’s looking at us, you’d swear he was thinking of his next move to ‘remove us’.
‘Please people I know I’m crazy, but I think of these things and it’s important to for us to always be prepared for anything and everything.’
Judging by the look on Chris’ face, he is also not pleased with seeing him here.
Just as I’m about to turn around to look Josh again, I feel a pair of cold hands touch my shoulders, which sends a cool shiver down my spine.
‘Great! Did he really have to come over to our table? Because he knows that he’ll get his ass kicked if he doesn’t leave us alone.’
In one swift movement, Chris is out of his chair and ready to pound on the human figure standing beside me, who just so happens to be Josh.
“Chris, it’s okay. I’ve got this.” “Angel, my love. Who is this man you’re having dinner with?”
Josh asks, and by the looks of things, this is not going to end well for him.
“Oh, I just came to check up on you, you’ve been ignoring my texts and calls, sweetheart.”
“There’s a reason why I’ve been ignoring your texts and calls, Josh. I told you to leave me the fvck alone!”
With the amount of venom in my voice, his facial expression changes into something I’ve never seen in him before.
He looked angry, sad, disappointed and broken at the same time.
“So you think leaving me for this junk will do you good?”
He says pointing a finger at Chris. “He might be junk, but at least he knows how to treat a lady, unlike you, fvckface.”
Is it me or am I on fire today? Taking a look to my right, Chris is enjoying this way too much. It’s like he enjoys me defending him.
“Chris, can we please leave?” I ask him, and without uttering a word coming from him, he takes out his wallet and puts the cash on the table for the bill.
When we get to the car, it’s still silent. “What does he want from you?” I figured he was talking about Josh, so I just tell him everything.
“He wants us to get back together, because he realised what a bitch Gail really is.
And the nerve of him to follow me like that all the way to the restaurant! I mean, that’s low.”
I’m really fuming and Chris is just looking at me and not saying anything. “So, aren’t you going to say anything?”
I ask him out of curiosity as to what he’s thinking right now. “Nope, I’m not going to say anything."
"Just that Josh won’t leave you alone unless you be reasonable with him. Tell him in a nice way that you two will never get back together. And tell him that you’re off- limits.”
And with that, he drives off. “Off limits? What do you mean ‘off-limits’, Chris?”
“Yes, Angel, off- limits. We are dating, aren’t we?”
Wow, dating? I don’t remember him asking me to be his girlfriend, though. “Dating? I guess so. But I don’t remember you asking me to be your girlfriend, though.”
“Sorry about that. I was planning on asking you tonight, but the incident that happened at the restaurant made me forget about it, until now.”
He says, looking sad. “It’s okay. You don’t have to explain yourself. I get it.”
‘I can’t believe I’m dating Chris- the most handsome guy in the entire school.
The girls are going to freak out when I tell them about this.’
