The next morning felt very relaxing- for the first time ever.

I even woke up by myself, not having anyone to wake me up because it’s midday or anything like that.

And worst of it all- it’s Sunday today. I decided to call Janette first to tell her the good news (I’m dating Chris).

After the second ring, she picks up with so much enthusiasm, it makes me wonder what she eats or does that gives her this much energy so early in the morning.

“Hey girl!” She almost shouts from the other end of the phone.

“Hey, Jane. Guess what?” I decide to give her a little challenge first before blurting it out.

“What is it? Are you pregnant? You got a job? You found me a boyfriend?” This is going to be a long day.

“Uh, Jane. Can I at least finish speaking first? I’m dating Chris.”

She stays silent for a constipated moment and I know that’s a warning for me to put the phone a bit far from my ear, because she’s a dramatic, loud and annoying friend.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Are you serious? I need to find myself a boyfriend so we can go on a double date.

"And then we can all go shopping together. Go to amusement parks, buy each other gifts…”

Just as she was about to finish her to- do list, I interrupted her.

“Jane, slow down. I haven’t even told you the whole story yet.” I tell her, feeling astonished.

“You don’t need to tell me the whole story. I knew that you two would end up together, one way or the other. So how did he ask you to be his girlfriend?”

I think I made a huge mistake by telling Jane about this.

“Well…it all started when we were on our date, things were going smoothly until Josh showed up at the restaurant.”

I still remember it like it was yesterday. Because it did happen just yesterday.

Wow, Angel, how dumb can you be?

“Wait. What was Josh doing at the restaurant where you and Chris were?”

She asks.

“I know right? Anyway, he showed up and called Chris ‘junk’. So as any normal guy, Chris got angry but I decided to take out the trash myself. I might have told him exactly where to get off.”

An evil grin appears on my face as I’m staring at myself in the mirror.

“I feel just like a proud mother.”

And with that she fake cries. I can literally hear her fake sobs through the phone.

“Really, Jane, really? A proud mother?” I say rather ‘matter of factly’.

“Well excuse me for getting all excited that my best friend has finally decided to take my advice that I had been giving her practically since we were like five years old.”

I just roll my eyes at that and take a long sigh. She is telling the truth about the ‘five years old’ part though.

We’ve been friends since the first grade and all my life I’ve known Jane to be quite a tough cookie when it comes to people who think they’re above us.

Even those who are above us receive a piece of Jane every now and then, because they’re above us.

“I understand, mom.” And with that we both burst out laughing. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard that my stomach even hurt. “So have you told Rose’ yet?”
