A/N: So warning ahead of time, I'm struggling so bad with Charlie. Which is sad because she's one of my favorite characters, but I can't relate her character on page. So...yeah. Don't be mad please! I know she's not well written...
And can I just say, the writer's block was so REAL in this chapter. I've been having such a hard time writing lately, but dude...I found a random music playlist on youtube and forced myself to finish, and I can't even begin to say how easy it was! I didn't want to stop the chapter. But I had to eventually. I forgot how inspiring music could be when I write.
Anyway, rant that literally no one asked for, over. Enjoy the chapter you fantastic people!
Casper, Wyoming. That's where the four of you were headed. You and Charlie stayed in the backseat, letting the boys sit up front. Sam offered to let you sit up front with Dean and, while you really wanted to, you couldn't imagine Sam sitting in the back for nine hours with his gazelle legs. He had more space in the front to stretch out and be comfy.
You, on the other hand, were trying to adjust to not having the entire backseat to lay in and nap while Dean drove. You never realized how much you enjoyed being able to relax in the backseat until now, when you couldn't. You glanced at Charlie, sat with an easy smile and laughing with the boys like you wished you could. You felt jealous that she had been in Sam and Dean's lives longer than you. You longed for the easy communication she had with them. Sure, your conversations weren't strained, but they just...you couldn't put your finger on it. You just knew they felt different than Charlie's.
"I still can't believe all of that happened," Charlie said after a lengthy conversation about some Leviathan and exploding dick...you didn't exactly know what that meant. It was a conversation you only half heartedly listened to. Something about the exploding dick seemed to make the dots harder to connect, but in the hunting realm, who really knew?
"Yeah, where did you even go to?" Sam asked, turning slightly in his seat to look at her. You stayed silent.
"Well, you don't get this pasty nerd skin by going in the sun. I spent some time in Alaska."
"Wait wait wait," Dean said. "I thought you were a geek and there was a big difference?" His tone was slightly mocking.
"Hey, I'm a girl. I can change my mind. And there is a big difference. I just happen to be both."
Dean shook his head, chuckling. "You are a pain in the ass. It's like I have the sister I never wanted."
"Ah, being a pain in your ass is what I live for." Charlie turned to you and you felt yourself take on a surprised expression. "So this kid that we're going to is your cousin?"
"Uh, yeah. I haven't seen him years." You proceeded to tell her the story of your life and Becket's life. You felt yourself unloading to Charlie, the boys carrying on their own conversation since they had heard it before. It felt surprisingly good to be so open with someone and have another person know your life. You never realized how sad a life it was that you were living a few months back. No one really knew you existed, let alone knew your story. Had you died, no difference would have been made. Your death would never have an impact, and that was a sad thought to think about now.
"So you've been a hunter all your life? Officially a little jealous."
You gave a light laugh. "Not much to be jealous of. I'd trade it all for a normal life and having my family back." You caught Dean glance at you through the mirror and there was a ghost of a smile on your face when you said, "But I guess if hunting led me somewhere I'm glad it's led me here." You kept your eyes on the rearview and Dean met them with glint in his own eyes.
