your lovely boyfriend is a hard worker. he practiced a lot thinking that he wasn't a good dancer when in fact, he was a very good dancer. he was confident in his vocals, but dancing was something he always wanted to improve on. and with a comeback just around the corner, seokjin seemed to be stuck at bighit, drawn to the practice room like two magnets. even after hours when the rest of the members went home, seokjin would be found there, attempting to prefect a certain move. so, you knew that's where he would be tonight. you didn't need the quick text he sent to know that he was going to be staying late: i'm going to be home late. don't wait up.
the text made you feel slightly depressed, making you stare at your phone screen, rereading the words in your head. your boyfriend wasn't taking care of himself and that was upsetting to you. it made you worry. but you had an idea of how to help him, since you knew that confronting him about overworking himself would be brushed off and forgotten about. you decided to cook for him. seokjin had taught you an assortment simple dishes, but you felt that those simple dishes weren't enough. you needed to surprise him, and a nice meal without any help was perfect. it would show seokjin that you cared about him and maybe it would help him decrease the extra amount of hours he was putting in to practice, hours that he could be spending at home with you.
you entered the kitchen with a determined step. it felt like you were on a mission and really you were. your mission was to help seokjin make him happy after all the stress he had built on his shoulders, really any positive response from him would give your mind a rest. you checked the clock on your phone and you got to work in the kitchen immediately, finding that you had a few hours with plenty to spare for if you messed up and needed to restart. you had searched online for a good dinner recipe, one that you would know that seokjin would be hungry for when he got home. you picked the perfect meal, his favorite in fact. only it was a challenging one for you, but it was perfect. you got out all the ingredients, silently thanking yourself for going on a shopping spree at the grocery store the other day. you were bored.
the recipe was long and tedious, having more ingredients and steps than normal. the recipe required an exceeded amount of preparation. you were already tired as soon as you started, mostly because it was late but there was also an abundance of energy you were exerting. what kept you going was seokjin. you weren't planning on giving up.
finally, everything was finished. the main course was in a nice bowl, the side dishes following behind in cute tiny bowls. but before you could prepare the table, the locks on your front door began to click. you could hear the cover on the keypad outside slide down just as the lock on the door was turned with a small beep. you felt a sudden wave of confidence as well as anxiousness coarse through your body. you left the kitchen just as seokjin was closing the door behind him. your heart clenched seeing how exhausted he looked, his limbs looking like noodles. "jin." you greeted.
seokjin looked up. he was slightly confused to see you up so late at night. he had expected you to be asleep in bed, and was thinking about him joining you for a good night's rest. but he still smiled, feeling better mentally after seeing his girlfriend waiting for him. "hey, love. i thought i told you not to wait."
you approached him and wrapped your arms around his torso. seokjin wrapped his arms around your shoulders, hugging you tightly to show that he really missed you. unfortunately for you, you found that he could use a nice, warm shower. "i know, but i wanted to surprise you. you've been working so hard lately and i'm worried."
you pulled away and looked at seokjin's expression. "i know." he spoke quietly, a tired expression on his face.
"well, come sit down." you suggested, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the dining table. you sat him down on a corner, his back towards the kitchen. you wanted to hide his surprise but the aroma of food has filled the apartment, probably already giving him an idea of what his surprise was. seokjin was excited. he noticed the food smell as soon as he opened the door. he was starving from practice, so he was happy that he wouldn't have to make something for himself (or he would have gone straight to bed without eating). he felt relieved.
you grabbed the bowl of the main dish. "now, jin, i'm not much of a chef, but... i really hope you like this."
seokjin looked up and watched you carefully place the dish in the center, directly in front of him. seokjin's eyes widened, it was his absolute favorite dish. his mouth was already salivating. his body was slowly beginning to feel better. he smiled widely, a little laugh escaping his mouth, and then he looked at you. you had other side dishes in your hands, bringing them out of the kitchen. you met jin's eyes, and you saw the love in them. you smiled, your cheeks turning an natural shade of pink. your smile was so wide, your cheeks and jaw began to hurt. you set the dishes down, surrounding the main meal. "let me go get the chopsticks."
you got two pairs of the utensil before joining seokjin at his side, sitting next to him. his eyes were bouncing around between everything you had cooked. he wanted to try them all, he was going to. "jagi, you cooked all this?" he was so amazed and proud of you, it was hard to contain all the emotions.
you nodded. you were proud of yourself, and to see seokjin so happy made you feel accomplished. you completed your mission, your idea to surprise seokjin. you haven't seem him like this happy in a while.
"wow..." he mumbled.
then he turned around in his seat and cupped your face. "thank you." he whispered.
you grinned. seokjin smiled before pressing his lips onto yours. the kiss was passionate and filled with love. you missed this kind of affection from seokjin. you felt deprived of it all. "now eat." you said sternly. "before it gets cold."
