the first time you saw him, it was at a party. it was your best friend's birthday party. her twenty first to be exact. so naturally she wanted to celebrate it at a bar/nightclub setting. where else?
minhee, your best friend, was a party animal, and that's how she always had been, at least since you and her started high school. she instantly became your cliche, popular girl. you ended up getting roped into that stereotype as well, as you were constantly around minhee, and she was always including you. even though minhee was popular, she was known for being kind-hearted and outgoing. she never failed to leave someone out. so, for her party, she invited all her past high school friends, and told them to bring their friends. she said she wanted to fill up the whole building and party the night away.
you were more of the shy, not so outgoing, type. though that didn't stop you from making friends and hanging out with them, you still liked to keep from being the center of attention.
going back to him, you had been sitting in a booth, by yourself, watching silently. minhee was partying in the center of everyone, dancing, drinking, laughing, all that you could imagine at an event like this one. you were happy because minhee was happy.
you spotted him as you were finishing your own glass of alcohol. you had already forgotten what it was called. minhee had ordered it for you, claiming that you would like it, and you did, so you ordered a few more. your head was already feeling fuzzy, but that didn't distract you from making eye contact with the young man that was with his own group of friends. he was laughing at something his friend had said, but still made eye contact. he had looked away within a split second. if there hadn't been flashing red and green and blue lights everywhere, you might've seen a light blush on his cheeks.
suddenly, minhee was next to you, talking into your ear. "i want you to meet someone, rather some people."
your stomach immediately was filled with anxiety. she was drunk, you could tell from the way she stumbled as you followed you and how her breath smelled of her citrusy drink. you worried for her slightly. you joined her, surprised to see that it had been the group of boys you were watching just moments ago.
you met his eyes again, this time it was your turn to blush. he was smiling, all his attention on you rather than on minhee. "y/n," she yelled over the music, "this is hoseok." she gestured to the guy who was moving along to the rhythm of the music.
he smiled. "hoseok." he introduced himself and you shook his hand.
you said your name before turning to minhee. "we went to elementary school together." she explained.
you nodded, understanding.
and then hoseok was introducing his friends. they all were nice, and few of them made you laugh as they were introducing themselves. they were a little drunk, some more than others. that's when you learned that his name was jeon jungkook, the one that you seemed to be developing a small crush over. you had never seen him before.
as the night drew on, you found yourself wanting to leave. you were the designated driver for minhee, knowing that she had little to no control. although you were feeling the effects of the alcohol as well, and wondered how you were going to get home. maybe minhee wanted to leave with you.
you sought out your best friend. you couldn't find her however, which was unusual. a sick feeling enveloped your heart and stomach as you frantically searched for her. she wasn't on the dance floor, or in any of the booths, or at the bar, where could she be?
finally, you wandered to the back where the bathrooms were, and there she was. the last place you would expect her to be.
she was being kissed by a girl that was shorter than her. you weren't surprised, of course she would find someone to kiss. the girl pulled away, noticing you, and then minhee saw you. she grinned. "i think i just found the love of my life."
