a/n: based off of the anime no game no life.
you only had to play an extremely hard game of chess to get to where you were now. some flying dude who was about the age of ten had explained all the rules to you but as he explained them, it was difficult to process. your brain was malfunctioning. YOU HAD JUST BEEN TOSSED INTO ANOTHER WORLD AND HE EXPECTS YOU TO BE MENTALLY PREPARED FOR THIS SHIT?!?!?!
you had wandered around the new world for a while. everything was so different from the real world. there were a ton more colors and everything was bright and unique. a chess piece, for example, was floating in the sky. you didn't expect any of you so you were already mentally drained from it all. as you were entering a small town, you finally memorized all the rules. you were mumbling them under your breath when you bumped into someone. you gasped and looked up. in front of you stood tall man. his facial features were surreal. he had a jawline that could slice through metal and his hair was split straight down the middle into two colors, pink and yellow, reminding you of strawberry lemonade. his hair was wavy and he had blue eyes. it was love at first sight. "s-sorry." you apologized, still in a daze but his amazing good looks.
he grinned. "ah, it's okay." he voice was very deep, a voice that didn't particularly fit his face. but in a strange way, it did. you watched as he bent down. while he was crouching, he told you, "you should pay attention to your surrounding." and then he held up your phone, the only thing that came with you as you were suddenly dropped from the sky after misting away from your bedroom.
"oh, i didn't even realize i dropped that." you smiled and reached for your mobile device but this unknown man pulled it out of your reach. "hey!" you exclaimed.
he smirked. "finder's keepers."
you glared at him. "but, you know that fell out of my pocket. you should return it."
the strawberry lemonade-haired guy tilted his head, a finger coming up to his chin. he looked deep in thought but you had a feeling he was just messing with you. then he grinned and shrugged. "i don't want to."
"f-fine. let's settle this in a game."
the man smirked, your phone twirling around in his hands as a way to tease you. "alright. you choose the game. however, if i win, you have to come with me on a date."
you blushed but maintained your strong stance, your glaring orbs boring into his own. you clenched your jaw in annoyance. "and if i win, you give me my phone back."
"so that's what it's called, a phone."
"we're going to play...uno."
-
you sat across from the pink haired man. he seemed extremely confident and while you may have looked confident on the outside, you were internally debating whether all of this was actually worth it. hell he was attractive and hot, so really you didn't have a problem if you lost. but you also wanted your phone back. you were going to try your best, even if you had little chance of succeeding.
a game dealer shuffled the uno cards in order to ensure that no one could cheat. then he dealt both you and mr. pink lemonade seven cards. you looked at your hand: a green nine, a yellow one, a green five, a red seven, a blue four, a blue skip card, and finally a change-the-color card. you held back a pained whine, trying to keep your poker face game strong. you weren't starting off too well and you were already doubting yourself.
mr. pink lemonade, sitting comfortably across from you, went first. he placed down his blue eight on top of the blue starting card underneath. you had two blue cards, but decided to save your skip for later. you placed down your blue four. your opponent hesitated as his eyes scanned his own cards. then he placed a blue one on top of yours. you anxiously bit your lip, deciding to use the skip card. the man shrugged, not bothered by your move. you then placed down your change-the-color card, smirking slightly. "green."
the atmosphere felt intense. you had a good feeling in your stomach, a feeling that told you luck was on your side. you observed your pink haired opponent but his face didn't show anything. you couldn't tell if he was anxious or confident from him. in other words, he had a good poker face going so you couldn't determine anything. on top of your last card, he placed a green plus two card. you squinted your eyes at him, moving your gaze to the deck of cards in front of you. you hesitantly picked up two cards, your hand shaking in the slightest as you did so: a yellow six and another blue four. oh, luck most definitely wasn't on your side as the man across from you then placed down a draw four card, changing the color to red.
-
it has been an hour. mr. pink lemonade had an uno, only have one card left in his big hand. you had fought so hard but nothing was going right. you honestly wondered how you had gotten this far with all the cards you had picked up and used during this game. you had two cards left and you were trying to come up with a strategy to win, if you were be able to use them that is. you placed down the yellow nine in your hand. "uno." you called.
your opponent smirked, the corner of his mouth perking up. then he relaxed back in his wooden chair and placed down his only card down onto the stack. this man had won the game.
you froze in your chair, staring at his card with wide eyes. he won. you lost.
you were in utter disbelief. "how?" you muttered.
the opponent smiled and stood up from his chair, stretching his arms and back as he did so. then he walked over to you, leaning down so his handsome face was closer to your own. "my name is kim taehyung and a bet's a bet. you owe me a date."
