there was an old restaurant in the heart of a small neighborhood. it wasn't necessarily famous or fancy. it had been running for years and years. its walls were rundown and looked as if it was on the brink of collapsing. that's how old it looked. but despite its ancient exterior, its interior remained updated and modern, with a touch of history.
typically, the restaurant was busy during the day. however, once the dinner rush ended, the restaurant became empty and quiet. it was strange for the restaurant, being open for 24 hours. no one ever came for a meal at night. as a matter of fact, the restaurant was never open for 24 hours, just until recently. and unfortunately for you and a some other employee, you and her got moved from the day shift to the night shift with reasoning pertaining to young ages and how elders couldn't possibly stay up an entire night.
just after two weeks, your fellow night shift employee quit. on her last night on the night shift, she told you that she had found a higher paying job at a fancier restaurant. as much as you wanted to join her, she claimed that they only were looking for one more waitress. now, you were stuck working the night shift all by yourself. how the restaurant owners even allowed that, you didn't know. it was scary at first, but slowly you found ways to distract and entertain yourself. there wasn't a manager to supervise you and seeing as no one ever came for a meal at midnight, you didn't have to worry about being caught off task or slacking.
but just as you were getting used to "working" by yourself at night in an empty restaurant, someone was finally hired, this time specifically for the night shift. his name was kim namjoon.
namjoon was rather an ominous character. there was something about him. when he first began working, he was very shy, and only shared a few words at a time. you and him hardly spoke at all throughout the night. you only knew his name from your boss telling you about your new coworker over a phone call.
a few weeks after he started, namjoon slowly began to open up a bit. you were often the one that initiated conversation, especially since you were bored needed some form of entertainment. there was nothing to do either than wait for a costumer in the dead of night.
namjoon, overall, was a genuine, kind person. although he was rather mysterious. as you got to know namjoon, it was the feeling he gave you that, in a sense, drew you to him. there was just something off, and you were intrigued by it. you wondered if you were just being paranoid or letting boredom get to your brain. you even wondered if you were developing a slight crush on your coworker. but you hardly knew a thing about him.
eventually, namjoon did began to talk to you more openly and seemed to be more comfortable. you and him were talk, but he often avoided topics about himself. he always found a way to direct personal topics towards you. he was a rather reserved being.
you often wondered about him. who was he? why was he so quiet? you thought about what he did during the day, imagining small every day things that you could see him doing. perhaps he slept as much as you did after the night shift. perhaps he would go home and later hang out with friends. over the weekends, maybe he would play a game or cook something. you just didn't have a clue. namjoon was mysterious. and your curiosity was beginning to get the best of you.

you sat down in your usual bar stool at the counter, your phone in your hand as you rested your elbow on top of the counter. your eyes already felt heavy and your shift had only begun. you still had hours to go. how were you supposed to remain awake for the rest of the night?
the door of the restaurant opened, waking your body up slightly. you turned around in your seat, spotting namjoon. he walked into the restaurant. his sweet smile was showing, as if it were a permanent look on his face. you smiled, "hello. nice of you to show up."
