"I'll be right back. While you're in here get your attitude together." Kenny said as he left me alone in his bedroom.
I walked into his connected office and sat down. I rolled my eyes as I thought about what he said. I had a very good reason to have a fucking attitude. I opened my laptop and pulled up my email. I wanted Kenny to see what disaster Eva had made.
"Have you calmed down?" Kenny asked.
I completely ignored his question as I turned my laptop to him. I didn't have to say anything as his eyes scanned the screen.
"And Eva did all of this? Are you sure?" Kenny asked shocked.
"Yes Kenny she did. I wouldn't be here or pissed off if she didn't. I know she's your girl and all but she's really overstepping. You need to get her in line when it comes to the business."
"Toni stay out of my business. You don't tell me what to do I tell you. Eva messed up badly but this can be fixed. You just need to call and make everything right." Kenny suggested.
"Oh no I can't. I have plans that can't be cancelled." I said as I got up quickly.
"I guess the accountants can try to fix the numbers. So where are you off to in a hurry?" Kenny asked.
"Kenny stay out of my business." Kenny laughed, "Touché, but seriously where are you going?"
"If you must know I'm going to hang out with my man, Derek. We are suppose to be doing a little shopping and stuff."
"So you really like him? I would've guessed you two wouldn't had made it this far. He must be playing it safe?" Kenny said as he grinned.
"Excuse me? We have a good time together and that's what matters. Besides you have your own relationship to worry about. So mind your business Kenny."
"Sheesh I'm just trying to lookout for you." Kenny put his hands up in defense. "There's a lot of things you don't know about him. Things that I know you don't care for. Just be careful he's clever."
"Kenny, please spare me the details about trying to lookout for me. You can't go from being my potential boyfriend to big brother. Life doesn't work like that honey."
"See that's where you're wrong Toni. I can go from being your potential boyfriend to big brother. After I get done being the protective big brother I'm going to be your husband." Kenny said.
I looked at him like he was crazy. He blew a kiss at me and I started packing my items up. I had been down this road once eight him and I didn't plan on going back. Plus I had Derek and he treated my great.
I walked through the house with Kenny in silence. It was awkward after his little confession and I needed to get from around him.
"Toni?" Kenny softly grabbed my arm, "I hope I didn't overstep but I meant what I said. Promise you won't give up on me."
"Kenny every decision you make is on you. I won't give you opportunities to hurt me again. Your actions will determine us."
I got in my car and drove off. I patted myself on the back as I drove out of the gated community. I decided to call Derek and tell him I would be over later but I didn't have my phone. I hit a u-turn at the nearest red light and headed back to Kenny's place.
After ringing the doorbell a quick 20 times Kenny opened the door.
"I left my phone." Kenny stepped aside and let me in. He didn't say anything as I headed back to his home office. I grabbed my iPhone off his desk and went back downstairs.
"Alright, Kenny I got it see you later!" I heard nothing as I walked deeper into the house. "Kenny! I know you heard me!"
I looked outside and Kenny was swimming. Walking through his kitchen patio doors I saw him floating on his back.
"Boss! I'm gone!" Kenny looked up and swam towards the edge of the pool. I don't know if he was being careful or my mind was playing tricks on me, but he got out so smooth and slow. It was like he was in slow motion with the perfect grin. The water running off of him and the sun glistening didn't make it better.
"Don't bite it off, you need your bottom lip." Kenny said. I quickly changed my posture and mindset. I hadn't realized that I was checking him out.
"Ha. Ha. Ha. I was thinking about Derek." I quickly lied.
At the mention of his name Kenny scrunched his face up. He truly hated his guts but that hate couldn't be because of me. Or could it?
"Could you please not bring him up all the time? I really don't like feeling like I have to vomit. We should talk about other important things." Kenny said as he dried off.
"Other things like what Kenny?"
"Like what date do you want the wedding to be? Do you want to go somewhere tropical or cold for the honeymoon? How many people are going to be in our wedding party?" Kenny said with a straight face.
He was completely serious. I froze up as my mind tried to process the situation. That was the second time he mentioned marriage and shockingly I don't scare me. I had to think quick I couldn't let him know I was okay with this marriage talk.
"Boy, you got a whole girlfriend! BYE!"
As I walked off I did one last glance. Kenny was standing there biting his lip watching me walk away. I have to admit I'm loving all this attention.
