「Read the book. Or you're dead. Both of you.」
---
As I stormed off to my room, I ignored Astrid's pleads. I just had to read a book. What could go wrong? Right? Rushing to my brand new room that I bought using the money we retrieved (yes- you could just buy one- this is a game), I burst through the door and slumped in my bed. I bought this room for three reasons: Astrid was pretty much dead and I was to of the couch, I had money from Astrid that I considered 'ours' and I knew this time would come. When I needed a bit of privacy for the book. On my bedside table was a purple book with a golden spine and golden text. The golden text read:
"Grimoire of a Hundred Souls"
'A Guide to this World's Mysteries, Magic and Wonders'
I shivered. Now- you much be asking: "Why the heck are you guys so afraid??? It's not like you've ever heard of it from anyone other from the Percy dude and you know nothing about it! What if it's not that bad and it's actually helpful and stuff???' That's true. But, it was the book; it was the book that told us that we shouldn't mess with it unless we wanted trouble. You could hear it screaming by just looking at it. Begging for you to open it- to read it. It wanted you. It told you it'd give you anything. That it'd give you joy. The truth. And ya know- that was really creepy and freaky. Nobody wants a book that pleads for you. Nobody. At least; nobody sane. And that's why I'm reading it. The lady with barely any sanity. Taking I deep breath, I carried it over to my bed. The moment I made touched it, I could already hear them. Faint voices, screaming. It was muffled and not very understandable but I didn't like it. I opened the grimoire and old, torn and greasy pages greeted me along with noises saying 'Why??? Why???' over and over again. The page repeated the title as I cautiously turned the page once more. The next page said: Original home to a 100 lost souls possibly joined by hundreds more.
Shivers. H- home to a 100 lost souls. Literal souls. And many hundreds more. They were the screams in my head, the voices that were already haunting me so early in the book.
'No- it's fine, probably to freak you out.' I know me. But it's hard to convince myself that when I can hear them. Like saying no one's hurt one you hear cries of pain. I flipped the page again, ignoring that part that sent a cold shiver down my spine, careful to not tear any page. The edges were ripped and the paper was very weak and how I describe say, fragile. I told myself random sarcastic jokes, remarks and possibilities to make me the slightest bit happier.
'What if this was all Astrid screaming, trying to freak me out and and get pay back?'
'Eh- Percy dude must be laughing his soul out and donating it to this book.'
'Good! Book is gonna take my soul, huh? Luckily, I think I left it in the 'old' world.'
Great. It was not helping at all. Yay. I felt like a presence was watching me. I had to do this. Sure- we would re-spawn if that Percy dude killed us with a knife but we'd still feel it. And the thought of...losing our memory. Forgetting Astrid...I don't think I would live. That would...*shiver*. Plus- what's so horrible about a book? It'll be fine. The index was on the next page. I decided to not read it so I wouldn't feel worse. Flipping to the next page, I finally reached the first chapter.
Chapter 1: Offensive Magic.
Spell 1- Nightmare's Dream
Description: An abusive Queen once ruled over a kingdom. She used her power to harm slaves and common people until the brink of death and stop before they die so she can abuse them more. A young girl, outraged at how the Queen treated her own people, prayed to the God of Death for mercy. The god heard his pleading and cast a spell to make the Queen experience what she had been doing to her people. It was called 'Nightmare's Dream'. The Queen ended her own life and the young child's mother took her place and led the kingdom to prosperity.
