Jimin's POV

"H-he what?"

The moment just feels so surreal to me. After all this time, hearing all the great things about Taehyung from Haeun, hoping that maybe he isn't real, I never in a million years would've imagined something like this to happen.

In disbelief, I ask Namjoon the question one more time. His face turns pained.

"H-he's gone. He and...her..were driving in his car one day. This other car came out of nowhere. He-he died on impact." Tears are flowing down Namjoon's eyes at this point. He moves to face the wall, trying to hide his sadness from my eyes. He probably doesn't bring up this topic often. I can tell from the way it was difficult for him to tell the story.

"But-but Haeun survived..." Namjoon turns to look at me as I once again mention her name. Is that why Namjoon is upset with her? Is he simply so hurt by the death of his brother that he's pinned all his anger and pent-up emotions on the one that got out alive?

No...but the bigger question is...why does Haeun act like Taehyung's still alive?

I look into the past for any signs of this situation... I rack my brain for any possible explanation... I dig into my memories searching for any of those insignificant details that may very well be significant.

I first think of that phone call that started this all. When I had given her that tiny slip of paper. When she believed that she made a phone call that never happened.

Then I remember the day she ran in on my dance practice. The day she met Namjoon once again. She thought she was supposed to meet Taehyung that day.

It hit me. Probably the most important moment of them all...The night by the lake. She told me she used to lucid dream that she was still with her family after they left her. She told me that she dreamed of being on her anniversary with Taehyung that day. I feel so stupid...I feel so angry at myself for not being able to put two and two together...It wasn't just that day that was a dream...

All of it was.

"Hey Jimin..." I glance up to see Namjoon finally speak, his eyes red from the outpour of tears. "...why were you so surprised by all of this? Aren't you friends with...that girl...? Di-didn't she tell you about this?"

"No...she didn't tell me...because I don't think she knew herself." Namjoon's face turns perplexed as I say this.

"What? No...that's not possible. I was in the room when we broke the news to her."

"Well, she still acts like he's still alive, like they're still together...how would you explain that?" Namjoon stays silent for a moment.

"S-so what? She just pretended he never...d-died and continued living life? What is the matter with her-"

"Namjoon hear me out. I think I know what happened. I don't think this is her fault." Namjoon lets out a scoff as I continue to defend her. But he doesn't say anything else, waiting for me to continue. "Well...do you know about Haeun's parents? How they left her when she was really little...How...she coped with it?"
