"What?!" Kat's eyes widened. "Wha-"
"It'll be fun," Noah shrugged.
"Fun?!"
"Fun?!"
"Fun?!"
"Yeah. Fun." Noah's brow crinckled in confusion. "Why not?"
"Um, let me think. Maybe because we are ALL GONNA DIE?!" Kat sat down on Noah's bed. She sighed, closed her eyes and fell back. "Noah-" she massaged her temples. "-we can't just- just- just- just do that! You are so-"
"Stupid?"
"Crazy?"
"Yes! Crazy! Thank you, Al!"
"You're welcome," Al muttered.
"I'm not crazy," Noah held his hand to his heart, jokingly. "The sea us wild. So am I."
Kat slapped him across the face. "Noah," said slowly.
"Kat," Noah mimicked.
"Noah, you are CA- RAZY!" Kat whimpered. She blinked.
"Listen, guys-"
"Alright. I agree." Kyle stepped out in front of them.
"What?!" Kat gave Kyle a look. He ignored it.
"The Unforgiving Sea is a border between here, this world, and there, the magical world of Jakuxu. If we can get across, we will be safe. No evil, no bad is allowed there. There is a magical border that keeps them apart. We will be ok and have nothing to worry about. Everyone is like us, in a way. The people of Jakuxu have special abilities. We would be all right forever. We could be normal again."
"Thank you, Kyle!" Noah gave Kyle a grateful smile.
"But, that's crazy! We might drown!"
"I wouldn't," Noah muttered.
"Right. So this is all about you, huh? You think that since you can't drown, you'll be king of Jukuxu. That's right! I said king and queen if I make it! But all you want is that isn't it! Yeah? Well, we are done! I'm done with y'all! With everything! I'm done with this! Being this- monster!" Kat's voice broke. She willed the tears to go away, but instead, they rolled down her face. "I'm finished," she whispered and fled out the door.
She ran down the street. She ran, aimlessly. She didn't care where she went.
When she finally stopped, she was at her hideout from when she was a kid. More tears came. Kat heard Noah's calls and yells from behind as she ran in and closed the curtain.
It was just like before. Old, dusty, big and spacey. Kat sat on the floor. She sobbed. For hours, it seemed. When she stopped, she heard silence. Then, something shuffled behind her.
"Go away," she sniffed. "We're done, Noah. "
"Kat," Noah sighed. "I'm sorry. That's all I can say. I'm sorry that it had to be this way. I'm so sorry, Kat, that we were born like this. But, ya know what? We made it work. We've kept the secret for five years. We've been friends for eight. We haven't had any problems since three years ago. Please, don't start now. Kat, I know it's tough. But, you have to push through it. Stuff like this, it's just, I don't know, unique. Special. Important. Amazing. But still dangerous. Really, you can't stop all of that now. We have made it this far and even though you've given up, I'm not giving up on you. I'm not letting you go like this this. Not now. Not ever. Kat, just, bear with me. Please. I won't let you go. I'm not letting them get you. If you quit, we all quit. Remember? Just, don't give up yet. We have to do this. Then, whatever. But please, Kat! Please promise me that you'll be safe. Come with us, please." Noah sat down beside Kat. She let him pull her into his hug. She let him do whatever. She let her head fall onto his shoulder. She let all the tears come. She let herself cry in Noah's embrace. She let herself feel bad about yelling at Noah. She let herself do anything she felt like.
"Ok," she whispered. "I promise."
Noah smiled. "I knew you'd come around." Kat wasn't in the mood for jokes. She just shrugged. "Yeah. I guess."

A week later, the four of them stood at the dock, ready to get in their boat and sail. Kat gripped Noah and Kyle's hands.
"Ok." She closed her eyes. "Let's do this."
They stepped onto the boat. Kat sighed and smelled freedom. She smiled. She would be free at last.
