~Sam~
My computer sat on my bed as I nervously paced, looking at the screen. The clock read 7:29 p.m. and our emails regarding football came at 7:30.
After a minute I heard a "you've got mail" and I practically dove onto my computer. I saw the email was addressed from the coach. Hesitantly, I sighed and opened it.
"Sam,
Congratulations, You have made the 2014 Westview High football team. Making this team comes with a price. Our football practices last around 3-4 hours every other day. Your position wasn't very hard to decide. You are the new quarterback for our team. Attached to this email are all the forms you need to fill out regarding that you don't take drugs and all that so please fill them out and send them back to me within a week. Good luck and you should be getting your jersey very soon."
I did a fist pump in the air and I heard Ava knock at the window from her house. I walked over and slid my window open.
"Congratulations. New quarterback" she said smiling as she chucked over a red jersey. "I hope you don't mind what number you got. I just said 07 because of the bible and all that stuff."
"No thank you so much, this is awesome." I said looking at the jersey. It was red and the back said "Edwards" in big white letters at the top with an even bigger "07" below it.
I took in a huge gulp and took every bit of braveness I had in me. "Ava, do you want to do something this weekend?"
"Yeah! I heard there's this music festival somewhere around here!" she suggested.
"Oh yeah that sounds awesome, should we exchange numbers or what?" I asked.
She nodded and we exchanged numbers. "I'll text you, but I've got to go, dinners ready." she called from inside her room.
"Until then." I said
"Until then." she repeated, sliding her window back into its frame.
I tried on the jersey and it fit perfectly.
"Sammy dinners ready!" my little sister Raina squeaked.
"I'll be there in a minute Raina." I folded my jersey up neatly and trotted down the stairs.
When I made it to the table my whole family was eating already.
"So kids how was your day?" my mom asked sweetly.
"I'm the teachers favorite!" Raina bragged.
"I met this really hot girl." Evan said as we all rolled our eyes.
"I made the football team, I'm the quarterback." I said quietly.
"Seriously?" Evan said nearly spitting his food out. "There are senior on that team, how did you manage to make it on?"
"I've played since second grade. If you'd remember anything else besides a girls ass you would know."
My 13 year old sister, Emily giggled as my parents tried not to laugh. Eventually my dad burst out laughing.
After all the laughing Emily spoke up, "I made the cheer team." she said nonchalantly as she twirled her pasta.
"What?!?" my mom nearly choked on her water. You see my mom is against cheerleading by all means. "Do you know how dangerous that sport is? You could be killed." She rubbed her temples. "Are you kids done?" we all nodded. " Okay you're dismissed"
We all scattered immediately. Our rooms were on different floors. Evan got the basement, Raina, Emily and I were on the top floor and my 4 month brother slept in a crib in my parents room.
"Hey Raina do you want to watch a movie?" I asked since I had a TV in my room.
"Frozen?"
"Frozen." I said and she squealed and hopped into my room.
We sat on the floor with candy and watched a movie. Raina and I had always had a special bond. Mostly because we were the only normal kids in this family. Evan didn't want to be seen with anybody younger than him and Emily was so worried about popularity that she was always out with friends. That left my sister and I. We watched the movie and sang along.
Even though she's 5 years old, she's one of my best friends.
