~Ava~

I tumbled down the stairs and fell on my face. My brother snickered at me as we grabbed some granola bars. We hopped into his car and drove to school.

"I can't believe we're not moving!" I exclaimed grinning.

"Yeah it's pretty good. So anyways, a very special little ladies 16th birthday is coming up." he nudged my shoulder as he pulled into the lot.

"I just want it to be low profile, no huge sweet sixteen or anything" I said and he screeched the car to a stop.

"Hold up bitch you're telling me that you don't want a sweet sixteen?" he said dropping his jaw.

"Not really, I mean I'm not into the big parties and such. Maybe just a few friends or there could be a lot of people but not a huge formal thing. Just a subtle get together."

He started the car again and drove into a parking spot "Leave all the planning up to Jennifer okay?" he asked. Jennifer was his girlfriend and she was going to college to be a wedding planner.

"I'm not having a wedding you know. I don't want a big, flashy party." we walked into the building and then he went into the senior hall while I walked over to the sophomore wing.

"Ava!" my friend Ali called, standing in front of my locker.

"Hey Ali. Why so excited?" I asked her, considering her usual laid back personality.

"Your birthday is on Saturday!" she screamed while I shushed her.

"It seems that everyone is more excited than me" I muttered while getting my books out.

"You better get pumped Ava!" she skipped down the hallway and screamed "GET PUMPED!" which gave her some glances but I just laughed.

By the end of the day I was so happy to go home. I headed to my locker but was stopped by a bright green poster. It read,

"2014 Talent Show! Sign up in the chorus room. Auditions are on Wednesday"

It was Monday so I knew I had to get working on my act right away. I ran down to the chorus room and saw the choir teacher in there with a clipboard talking to some students.

"Uh hi I'm just here to sign up" I said and the teacher nodded and handed me the clipboard where I wrote my name down. I handed the clipboard back and walked outside.

I looked around for my brother and his car wasn't there. I sighed and started to walk home. It was just a 10 minute walk but it still sucked. I hummed to myself as I kicked a rock on the sidewalk. I finally made it back home and walked inside. I didn't have any homework so I decided to go up into the tree in my backyard and listen to music. I heard giggling and took out my ear buds.

"Oh my god I know right" it was Emily's friend talking into her phone. I didn't see Emily outside. "Emily is literally the most annoying little bitch in the world. I know I'm only hanging out with her because her brother is hot. Yeah he's only two years older than me, what's your problem? Well you know what you can find someone else to take you to Hawaii!" she hung up and huffed. I hopped down from the tree.

"Oh Ava darling! I didn't see you there!" she said pulling my arm. I shook her off and walked inside to Sam's house.

I basically live there so I just walked in. I looked out the window and saw Emily sitting in the hot tub with her friend. I snuck up to her room and looked around. The walls were mint green and she had some lights strung up. She had numerous pictures taped to her wall, mostly band pictures. I looked to the window and saw Lucas. He was on his laptop with his headphones on. I continued looking around Emily's room for a while until I heard a door slam.

"Bye Sasha!" Emily squeaked

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs and I freaked out. I panicked and rolled under her bed. The door opened and then shut.

"Damn it I bet she hates me" Emily exclaimed and I saw her phone hit the ground. I held my breathe as she bent over to pick it up.

I saw her feet walk over to the window and she opened it. "Hey Lucas!" she shouted.

I heard a window slide open and some shuffling. "Hey Emily what's up"

"Eh nothing much. So anyways this is totally hilarious but you know how we're talking out of our windows and stuff? That's how my brother and his girlfriend met!" she laughed "isn't that funny?"

"Girlfriend? Er Emily I'm sorry but I don't think of you that way. Sorry you're just too..." he trailed off and I wanted to get out from the bed and punch him "immature. I'm sure you understand but I already have a girlfriend. Her name is Sasha." the little bitch Sasha??

"Oh" Emily's voice cracked "I understand completely" she said, I could tell she was choking back tears. I heard a window close and she screamed. "DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT!" she said, kicking her foot against the wall. She ran out of the room and into the bathroom.

I rolled out from her bed and ran downstairs and out the door. I stomped over to Lucas' house and knocked on the door.

"Oh hey Ava I wasn't expectin-"

I punched him square in the face and slammed the door. Have fun with the bruise, jackass. Sisters protect each other.
