~Ava~
"Will that be all?" the waiter asked as we nodded. My phone buzzed.
"You are going off to college in a year, you need to get your grades up!" my mom scolded my brother.
I took that oppurtunity to check my phone. A text from Sam. I looked up again and saw my mom distracted with my brother. I soon started a conversation with Sam.
Sam: hey I just wanted to make sure you're okay about the Eric thing?
Me: oh don't worry I'm completely fine ;)
Sam: okay well I know you're at dinner so I'm gonna let you go
I began typing again when I heard the waiter.
"Ahem? Miss would you like some Parmesan on your pasta?" the waiter asked, becoming impatient.
I snapped my head up "oh sorry no thank you"
"Okay then" he rolled his eyes and walked away.
I start picking at my pasta. "Ava so I see you've been spending a lot in your room. A lot more than usual. Are you doing okay?" my mom said concerned.
I laughed and shook my head "No I'm fine I just have been busy with school, football has been hard."
"So who's Sam?" my brother Darren asked looking at his phone and eating steak.
My cheeks turned red and my moms eyebrows raised. "Hm oh uh why do you ask?"
"I ask because of the five million pictures of you and him that are captioned "the bae" oh look there's one of you two kissi-"
"Okay that's enough Darren." I cut him off.
"No show me your phone Darren I want to see" my mom said yanking the phone out of his hand. "Oh he's a handsome one." my moms eyes widened. "Wait a minute, Sam Edwards! As in Molly Edwards son? Oh my goodness we do yoga together every Wednesday, Molly and I."
I bit my tongue and looked at my brother. His eyes were angry.
"Darren?"
"His older brother stole my spot on the soccer team." he said taking his phone back and slamming it down on the table, causing his water to splash."and he's a total player. It's only been two months and he's had like seven girlfriends."
"Well Sam is different." I spit back.
"Well don't come crying to me when he breaks your heart" he argued.
"Darren why can't you just let me be happy for once?" I yelled loud enough for other tables to hear.
"That's enough you two! We came to this nice expensive restaurant because I had important news to tell you but you two but you are always fighting!" my mom yelled.
"Mom? What's the important news?" I questioned, my voice getting softer. The last time she had important news my father had cancer. He died two years ago.
"You don't have cancer now do you?" my brother asked.
"Darren shut up." I growled under my breath.
"Well ever since your dad died, it's been hard to raise you two by myself. Well, I've been dating this really amazing man named Ed."
"So that's it right?" I leaned forward into my seat.
"Well no. He lives really far away and it's hard to drive 7 hours just to see him. So we're moving to San Diego."
Darren and I sat there, our mouths agape. "Mom, when are we moving?" Darren whispered.
My mom sighed "three weeks"
