B O N N I E

"What is wrong with you?" Josh growls, stepping towards me with an arm outstretched, his eyes narrowed, rigid, glaring straight at my attacker.

I gape up at the sky, rubbing the back of my head, which is now throbbing with pain. Rubbing the spot, I desperately feel around to make sure she didn't rip a clump of my hair, which would make this situation entirely worse. thankfully, I don't feel any bald patches.

Bonnie - 1, Random ass girl pulling my hair - 0. I win.

"What's wrong with me? What is wrong with you!" a female voice shrieks from above me followed by what I can only describe as maniacal, Mr. burns style laughter.

Tilting my head slightly, I see the same girl from earlier who was dancing, well, more like dry humping on Josh; she standing there scowling down at me, her fists clenched so hard her pale hands were turning a light shade of red, her eyebrows furrowing so much they're almost touching in the middle, which makes me snicker slightly.

"Why are you all over some other girl!?" still screaming, she steps towards me at the same time Josh does. He kneels down and places a protective hand on my forearm, whispering to me, "are you okay?" I nod, not wanting to move my head too much.

Helping me to my feet, Josh softly pushes me behind him, a protective arm sheltering me from her. His kindness towards me only enrages her more.

"Go inside BonBon, I'll come to find you later," he mutters over his shoulder. I don't counter before I wander off back towards the house needing to find Olivia.

As I walk further away, I can still hear the distant argument brewing between Josh and his girlfriend, but my head is hurting too much to care right now. If she is his girlfriend, he abides by the crazy vs hot scale. She is beautiful, but is the crazy worth it? I don't think so.

Tonight is the perfect example of the drama I try to avoid.

Shoving my way through the crowd, I find Olivia and Axel still in the same place, still making out. Hands are disappearing underneath each other's clothing, grabbing and pulling at things I didn't want to think about in a public place. They're repugnant. These two need to learn to make it to a bedroom before they tear each other's clothes off.

"Liv, can we please go?" I stammer, barely being able to speak, still in shock and in agony. The back of my head feels like it's on fire.

"Bon, what happened?" Olivia pushes up from Axel's lap, rushing towards me, the concern apparent in her expression. "I hit my head, sort of, well, a girl pulled my hair-" I stumble through my words, and Olivia cuts me off gasping angrily.

"Where is she? Who is she?" her head flying from side to side, canvasing the party looking for our suspect. I almost want to cry from how protective Olivia is of me, but all I do is whine from the pain building in the back of my head.

"Liv, it's fine, seriously. I just want to leave; I can't be here right now." She nods her head in agreement, but her fiery eyes don't agree. "Let me just say bye to Axel. I'll meet you out front." I nod, wandering back outside, dreading stepping back out into the chilly night air.

It's almost 1 am now, and I am so ready for bed; apparently, I'm the only one judging by all the cheering college students running around drinking, dancing, and grinding; just a typical Sunday night for them, I guess.

I find a spot on the curb and take a seat, waiting for Olivia. Glancing around, I don't see Josh anywhere or his girlfriend. A sigh of relief surges through me as I let out a jagged breath. I hear steps approaching me, too loud to be anyone but Olivia in her obnoxious high heels, which she wears like a second skin.

I go to stand up, but she sits down beside me instead. "seriously, are you okay?" she questions, looking at the back of my head, stroking the tender spot where my hair had been pulled. I lean in toward her, enjoying the comforting touch from her.

"Why did some girl do this to you?" she questions, the anger in her voice disappearing, now replaced by concern. I groan, "Josh and I were hugging, and I guess she got jealous-"

"Wait, you were hugging Josh?" she looked at me, puzzled. "I thought you were annoyed at him? Why are you two are so confusing?" I let out a chuckle, not disagreeing with her.

"I think she's his girlfriend; she was all over him before I got here." Olivia lets out a loud sigh, "I'm going to kill that girl when I see her."

I smile, "No, you aren't. I need you around so you can't get into trouble, not even for defending my honor."

Wrapping her arm over my shoulder, she pulls me into her; I lean my head against her chest, enjoying the comfort, listening to the steady beat of her heart, and being thankful for my best friend.

Minutes later, a car pulls up, our ride back to Olivia's house, but this time it isn't Scott.

Standing, I walk over to the car and pull open the door to see Josh sitting in the driver's seat, an apprehensive look masking his beautiful features.

Who am I kidding? I can't stay away from this guy even if I wanted to.

"Need a ride?" He questions, knowing all too well we were waiting for him, this was a straightforward plan organized by the one and only Olivia, and when I see the huge smile on her face as she climbs into the backseat, I know my thoughts were spot on.

Sliding into the front passenger seat, I peer over at Josh, who is still watching me, his eyes scanning me up and down, "is your head okay?" he questions, trying to peer around to see where I was hurting.

"It's fine; I just need to sleep it off." I brush off any affection from him because that's what I do best, avoid any affection or attention, and move on.

He inches closer to me, and I almost forget to breathe. Screw the avoid and move on plan; this is better, so much better. I sense a nervous hand grasping my thigh; looking down, I feel my heart pleading to leap out of my chest and into his arms. I know this is his way of getting my attention and not a way for him to seduce me, but touching my thigh... a very risky move on his part.

"I'm sorry, BonBon, for more than you know."

His words hit me hard. I have no idea what he means by that, but I can tell whatever it is he is hiding; it has a lot of power to hurt me. Olivia coughs loudly from the back seat, trying to cut the tension as Josh removes his hand from my thigh and puts his car into gear.

Sucking in a deep breath, I clench my fists in my lap, trying to ease the anxiety now swirling in me. I need to calm my nerves and the butterflies trying to flutter out of me.

I feel my phone vibrate in my bag, and I know for a fact this is going to be a text message from Olivia questioning what the hell was that just now between Josh and I.

Reaching into my bag, I pull out my phone as it vibrates again.

"What the hell was that?!"

I know my best friend all too well.

Typing back a quick response not to make it too clear what is going on to Josh, "nothing! Stop texting me; you're making this so awkward!"

Olivia mocks from the back seat, and I glance over to see Josh, the corner of his lips fighting a smile. He knew we were texting about him. Great.

"So, where am I dropping you both off?" Josh questions, directing the question mostly to Olivia as he looks in the rear-view mirror to catch her attention.

"You can drop me home; it's up to Bonnie if she goes home with you or me."

"I thought I was staying at your house tonight?" disputing. I don't know what her plan is here.

"You could always get Josh to drop you home; he lives next door to you, remember?"

Okay, now I see exactly where this is going.
