Chapter 5
"Knowledge is power. Power to do evil...or power to do good. Power itself is not evil. So knowledge itself is not evil."
~Veronica Roth, Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

Kathleen Kennedy had arrived back to the Hickory Hill homestead, completey exhausted.
She'd gotten a letter when she came back. It was from Kruschev. He wanted to "meet" her, he'd said.
Well it didn't sound such a good idea to her anyway. She'd read stories of the Russian leader. He was vicious, cunning, and a manipulator.
She brushed her wet hair out of her back dress. It was still dripping wet and it caked the precious dress. The dress was a light blue adorned with green jewels on the front and back. And now she was sitting on the plane to Russia where she was to meet him.
Her stomach boiled with memories. She remembered once that her uncle had been bullied by the soviet leader but then Kathleen reminded heralded she was a girl. And she was tough. If anyone tried to harm her, they wouldn't meet a happy ending.
She was forced into a private limo once the plane landed. She noticed the security here was very strict. She kept her eyes on the floor as the crowd screamed and shouted her first name and last name.
The limo driver hit the brakes and Kathleen stepped out as the secret service agent opened the door to her. She got out and was aware to not stretch as she did as usual. It would set off a bad impression.
She saw Kruschev standing near the back of the building. Kathleen moved her legs followed by the agents on her left and right who were followed by a translator. She met Kruschev's gaze boldly and silently as they approached.
He spoke and when he did she didn't understand until the translator spoke for her. She nodded and plastered one of those fake smiles on her face but deep inside there was a lusting hate for the Soviet Union ruler. Oh, how she hated him!
Just be calm, she instructed herself. Don't feel hate. The soviet led her to a room. He gestured to it and she began to step forward when she noticed the agents try and stop her. She looked into their eyes. "I'll be fine. I know how to fight, don't I?"
The agents stepped back, showing respect and they saw the determined look in her eyes. She followed the translator and Kruschev toward a small room in the back of his chambers. She watched as he instructed her to sit down. She sat down of course.
"What is it you want?" She asked him a crisp voice. She didn't tremble with fear. He was just curious about how them "Kennedy time traverlers" had managed to get back into a historical time. Kathleen explained slowly it was her uncle's fault. He had led them here and they'd changed history. On purpose.
She added the crisis of the Vietnam War. How it'd changed the world and how Johnson had been a bad president. She promised that President Kennedy would not seek war; he'd seek peace and he had a greater threat looming ahead of them. The discovery of Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Even now, Kathleen shook with rage. She despised Johnson even more. And she lusted to destroy the Johnson administration even though it hadn't become true. For now, America's dreams had not come true.
She left the meeting with her head down and her eyes staring down at the floor. Her stomach ached for some reason and she went into her borrowed room and leaped on the bed, crying into the pillows.
She didn't understand. History seemed more wrecked up then ever and her brothers and sisters were back in Hickory Hill while she was laying on a Russian bed, crying pathetically into the pillows.
Alone.
....................
David stared at his father in horror. At first he didn't understand.
"Why is he after Rory?" was his first question. Bobby looked at the water, concerned and his blue eyes dimmed for a second.
"David." His voice was low. "If I'm right, Rory never met me? If this sort of time travel hadn't existed, she'd have no memory of me, right?"
"I'd still be drunk and yes," David admitted. "She didn't know you before we came. She wanted to come because of that. She was intereasted in you."
Bobby nodded. He seemed thoughtful. "That's a reason why. Rory has no memory of her father or at least she used to. That's why Rory's a target. She could be the one that is manipulated the most. She's barley getting to know me. She knows of my anger temper and my softness with children."
"I don't understand though," David said. "Why didn't Lyndon pick Douglas or Max? They barley remember you. They only have small visions but they still dream to remember you."
"Because Rory has a weakness," Bobby said grinding his jaw. "We can't let here get anywhere outside the compound. She-"
"Daddy!"
David turned his head in annoyance ready to scold Douglas but once he saw the determination in the green eyes, he stopped.
"What?" Bobby looked calm but annoyed. "What is it, Douglas?"
"It's Kara," his young son that wouldn't be born till 68' said. "She and Caroline and John are coming here."
