2. Considering All Offers

Laying the pen back onto your desk, you sighed in relief. You'd finished your report just in time to go grocery shopping before heading home. Turning the paperwork in to Sir Night Eye, you gave him a pleasant goodnight and a smile.

"Night Sprite, when will you consider my offer of being a full time hero here?" His voice relaxed and terrified you, mostly because you usually only heard it before you had to go into a dangerous situation or because you were running late. He'd offered you a full time position a week ago, and you told him you were in the middle of considering your options. To be honest, you hadn't been weighing your options too much, you'd been very focused on the countless missions you'd gone on in the seven days that had passed.

"Today and tomorrow are my off days, so I'll be able to weight my options tonight. I'll do my best to get back to you by tomorrow afternoon, but it might be the day after. It depends how productive I can be before I get home, haven't gone grocery shopping in a few weeks." You responded in a friendly manner. Out of all the hero agencies who had offered you a full time position, this was one that you consistently took jobs with and enjoyed working at... that being said, you enjoyed a few other agencies as well, and each of the five offers had a laundry list of benefits and detractors.

Sir Night Eye smiled at you, bid you a goodnight, and went back to his work. He was hopeful that you'd choose his offer, your skills were perfect for infiltration and information gathering missions, and any type of hostage crisis. Those were three types of cases he got a lot of, so he worked with you often.

Walking into the locker room, you removed your scarf, unzipped your hero suit, and folded both up and put them in your medium sized purse. Then, you detangled your goggles from your thick hair, and put them into your glasses case, removing your sunglasses in the process.
You quickly slipped into a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and loose, red satin blouse. Finally, putting your work boots back on, you grabbed your purse and sunglasses and headed out into the mid afternoon light.

After the mission had ended yesterday, you caught up on as much sleep as you possibly could. You'd woken up at 10:30 this morning and gone into the office to do your paperwork, and now, at 2:45 you were headed to your favorite grocery store for your weekly essentials, chicken breast, eggplant, onions, broccoli, radish, tofu, and a bar of sea salt dark chocolate.

Your cell phone rang twice before you answered it, "This is Y/N, how may I help you?" You hadn't bother to check the caller ID, so you figured friendliness was best.

"Oh I see how it is. Bag the big, bad guys from a mission and forget all about lil ole me! I should've known you'd leave me in the dust!" Your friend's voice was so loud through your phone that you had to pull it away from your ear to prevent yourself from going deaf.

"Emi, I answered my phone quickly and didn't check my caller ID, I'm sorry! What's up?" You smiled, your best friend was wild. But what else could you expect from the Smile Hero: Ms. Joke.

"Oh thank goodness! I was worried for a moment you'd forgotten about me! I wanted to see if you'd be interested in hitting up a few bars tomorrow with me and a few others. Ya game?" You weren't even sure why she asked. You knew she knew that the answer to that question was always, indefinitely, yes.

"Hmmm... I'm not sure if I can... I planned on mowing the lawn, scrubbing the tile of my bathroom, and re-grouting my kitchen counters...." you began to list all of the made up chores you had to complete that prevented you from coming out tomorrow.

"Haha, figured. Meet at my place around 5:30, we can make dinner and get ready together. If the grout work takes too long, you can come over around 8:45/9:00, that's when the others are arriving for pre-drinks." She laughed at your obvious lies and then proceeded to ask about your day, and kept you busy on your walk home from the grocery store.

Unlocking the front door to your apartment, you said goodbye to your good friend and walked in, ready to food prep for the week and do lots of laundry. And of course, review the hero agency offers.

Finally sitting down on your couch in your old, massive T-shirt and underwear, you put all five letters in front of you. Four Hero Agencies and One invite to interview at your alma mater. You put Nedzu's letter to the side, you were a Pro Hero, you weren't going to give up on your blossoming career and become a teacher. So you didn't even bother opening his letter.

You opened the letter from Fatgum first. The pay was good, the hours were similar to the ones you currently worked, but his office was farther away than you wanted and it stressed the importance of paperwork. Next up was Ryukyu's office, you'd only worked with her once or twice on a mission, so this letter had entirely surprised you. Reading it thoroughly, you realized it was not an offer for being a full time Pro Hero at her agency, but instead contracting yourself with the agency so you could occasionally help on missions. It was definitely a great offer, despite not being a full time position, you'd decide whether or not you'd commit after you chose your full time Agency. The next one was from Gunhead and his battle agency, which confused you even more. You weren't a battle oriented hero, you were recon & rescue oriented, and lots of infiltration oriented jobs. You read the details, it was similar to Ryukyu's letter, but as a full time hostage specialist for his agency. Which was very tempting, becoming a specialist meant that you could expect more compensation for your time and expertise, and it sounded really cool.

Finally, you held Sir Night Eye's letter in your hands. An agency you temped with a lot, signed many part time and intermediary contracts with, and a team of people you enjoyed partnering with. The agency wasn't far from your home, and the pay was much better than you anticipated. Despite not having a special title along with the full time position, you realized that there never was any doubt about where you were going. You'd always been a consistent person, so you phoned your new boss. It went straight to voice mail, like usual.

"Hey Boss! I wanted to say thank you for offering me this full time position at your agency, and that I would like to accept your offer. If it still stands. Give me a call back at this number. Have a good night." You left your message quickly, and as concise as possible. You knew Sir Night Eye liked it like that.
