You and your two idiotic friends stood in line, waiting to get your numbers. These numbers would coordinate with your placement in the speed date and therefore would coordinate with who you spoke to and the order you followed. Getting up to the hostess, she smiled at you.
"You look like you don't want to be here, I'll give you a good number, it'll have a fun route." With those words, she handed you a pin emblazoned with the number 9. Yamada and Ms. Joke had much higher numbers, you smiled, at least someone was trying to make sure you had a good time tonight. With that thought, you remembered All Might.
Y/N- Hey! Made it to the venue. I'll keep my phone on me. Text me when you want to get dinner.
You hoped this would result in a hot bowl of pho at home with Toshi, but you wouldn't mind going out to eat either, but he didn't like drawing attention like that. You smiled at the thought of him trying to fit into a street ramen shop like Sā had.
The event began with a bang - literally - someone shot off a small bang and everyone ran to their seats. You saw your empty chair with the 9 attached. You walked over slowly, you didn't need to speak to any of these people, this was for your friends.
When you sat down, there was no one across from you, just a card with the number 2 on it. You smiled, you didn't mind being "stood up" that hostess really knew how to set you up for victory. That's when you heard a commotion behind you.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN #1 HAS BEEN TAKEN?!" A deep voice rumbled, no one else seemed to notice the commotion.
"Sir, if you'd like, you can take #3? And you can get seated right away." The hostess's voice was quiet but didn't waver, you cheered her on in your head.
"No, I'll take #2 then. I guess it suits me." He finished arguing and went to grab the pin, despite the young woman's protests, the number 2 was reserved. You realized she had specifically given you 9, and kept 2 empty so you could remain free. At this moment, you decided a hero needed to intervene to defend her from this.... Fuck. You'd turned around and the figure that had now successfully grabbed the pin was walking towards your table.
Your eyes met. His smoldering and hot, yours cool (yet incredibly shocked). You knew the man, his hero identity and his personal identity. You also knew his estranged wife.
"Ah, Enji Todoroki, I never thought this would happen." You nearly whispered across the table. You didn't fear him, you just didn't like him too much. What could you say? You were in one of All Might's circles, you'd chosen your side.
"Ah, Y/N... it's been a while hasn't it? Almost a year since I've seen you outside of work." His chest rumbled, almost in appreciation. He'd never been friendly in the past, but he'd never been rude either... which in his case was considered to be on his good side.
"It has been, I've been doing a lot of Pro-Work lately, signed officially with Sir Nighteye's Agency. How have you been?" You were content. A server came around and filled your glasses with the wine special, a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, dry with oaky hints.
"Congratulations, once you get tired of Sā, maybe you'll think about coming to a bigger agency?" His tone had changed. But why? There was suddenly a competitive edge to his voice. "I'm doing well. I'll pass All Might soon. I can feel it." You giggled at that, hiding it deftly with a glug of wine.
"AND NEXT!" The event's emcee called out. Apparently the men were the ones who had to change seats each time, you gave Enji a delicate finger wave, this time sipping your wine.
"Have fun Enji, see you around." He didn't want to leave, but your dismissal was clear.
"I'll definitely see you around Y/N." You swore you heard his voice smolder, was that even possible?!
The next round was once again an empty chair in front of you, for number 69. You giggled at the thought. You saw Enji glare over to your table, as he ignored the bubbly blonde in front of him. He couldn't believe that you were alone, again. How was it possible?! Then he saw you suddenly check your phone, and a huge grin shot across your face. You then grabbed your shawl, slipping it on, you grabbed your things and left the event. Enji watched you graciously thank the host as you handed your badge back to her. The number 9.... he'd remember that.
"Y/N!" A very recognizable voice shot through the crowd, no one turned, how was no one else watching this intense show before them?? Enji couldn't understand these useless people. You, a shining star, absolutely gorgeous, being called to by the number one hero. His ears began to smoke as he watched your athletic, lithe figure be picked up off the ground and pulled into a big hug. With that, he aggressively returned to the conversation, giving it his all. He wouldn't be out done by All Might.
————cut to your rescue————
"Oh my goodness Toshi, you wouldn't believe it. Enji was the first person and only person I had to speak with. He was... interesting. Enough about me, how was your day?" You we're both sitting on your couch, your legs in his lap. Hands around your big bowls of pho, you were still in your dress clothes, but super relaxed.
"It wasn't bad. I've been invited to teach at UA... I might take the offer." You nearly lurched from your seat, but the hot soup kept you frozen in your spot.
"Nedzu must be trying to steal all the up and coming heroes for himself... Shota was also invited." You left yourself off that list, not sure where you belonged.
"And you as well, your name was included by Nedzu when I spoke with him today. Would you ever consider it?" His voice resonated with you....
He rescued you, but now he was inserting some extreme chaos into your life... you could roll with it.
