SIX MONTHS LATER
My head was against Austin's shoulder as Bad Teacher played on the screen. Cathy, Lyric, and Sam sat with us, all of us sharing a very large bowl of popcorn. Cameron Diaz was grinding against a car, soaking wet, and dancing around in crotch shorts. I rolled my eyes.
"Wow. I can't believe she gets paid for doing this," I say, and Cathy and Lyric nodd in agreement. Austin shrugs.
"She can't act for crap, but she's pretty hot," Austin points out, which I have to agree to. She is hot.
"Yeah, I guess. Her smile is creepy as hell, though," I say, to which Austin agrees to.
"Woah, Danny, you don't care that your boyfriend called her hot?" Cathy asks.
Austin and I have been dating since that first date. We've been having a great time, and once, once got to second base. I'm definitely not ready for anything else yet. Even though Austin definitely is. I don't dress the way I used to, too slutty or too nerdy. Sort of in between. I mean, I take care of my hair, but I don't wear make up. Though Austin really doesn't care about my appearence. I love him for being hilarious, kind, and fun. And he loves me for being sweet(a quality I didn't really know I had), smart, and funny. So it evens out.
And if you're wondering if he's ever told me he loves me, he hasn't, but Sam and Cathy says he does, and he just isn't ready. So I'll wait.
I shrug. "What? She is. Besides, she's old. No competition," I say, which makes Austin laugh.
"Okay, but if I had a boyfriend, that boy better only be looking at me, or else I'll kill him. In fact, he should idolize the ground I freaking walk on," Cathy argues while everyone rolls there eyes.
"You just don't know what it's like to be in love!"
"Don't make me tickle you, Dan," she warns, and I shut up. Lyric laughs.
"Can we just watch the movie?" Sam asks, so we direct our attention to the screen. A few minutes pass before Cathy speaks up.
"Are you and Austin going to get married?" She asks randomly. Austin and I both blink in surprise.
"Uh, I don't know," Austin says," I mean, we're only in high school."
"Yeah. Anything could happen before then. He could turn to drugs."
"And she could become an alcoholic," Austin smirks. Cathy pouts.
"Aw. I thought it would be cute if you did," she says, sounding disappointed.
"Can we not talk about my sister getting married?" Sam asks. Lyric smiles brightly.
"Sammy and I probably will, though."
Everyone, including Sam, stares at her with wonder.
"Really?" Austin asks, looking at Sam with trepidation. I understand. It's kind of weird to picture my brother getting married.
"W-well, yeah, we've talked about it," he says quietly.
"Now I really want to watch the movie. Everyone shut up," I say, and grab Austin's hand. I really don't want to talk about Sam's future married life. Though it gets me curious.
I start to wonder, would I even want to marry Austin? I was right when I said anything could happen. We could break up. Or maybe get out of touch after high school. But what about now?
I look up at his beautiful tanned face and smile. Yeah, I could marry him. But that's a long, long time away from now. And that's okay, I guess. I kiss his cheek, surprising him. A secretive smile curls up his lips and he leans into my ear to whisper something.
"I love you."
